Average Cap Prices: Canada, GTA Area?

Folks, I may be looking at getting a cap on my 2010 FX4, Sterling Grey 5.5" box and was wondering about the average prices for these. Some features I like are:

1. Snug fit to the cab with a seal (know it is/may not be water tight0 with the ability to have the Cap front window fold down/slide over/be removed.

2. Is the same height as the cab of the SCREW.

3. Has a locking tailgate window.

4. Able to have a roof rack system installed on it.

5. Don't need to open vent windows, just be secure and possibly have a tint on it.

I have looked at Van & Truck world and they seem to be above $2,000 for the A.R.E models. I had stopped by Cap Ontario (Ontario Cap on hwy 7 in Vaughn) and they said somewhere around $1,500 with roof racks IIRC.

What has others out there found? I currently have the Ford "Bak Flip" hard cover on it now which leaks water at the seams.

Thanks,

I understand completely.

Your most likey looking from $1400 - $3000 for new depending on what brand and style.
Raider makes a nice cap and in the 1500 - 2000 range
Some places are having sales but they are few and far between on truck caps..

Happy Hunting

Thanks ... talked to Van & Truck world and the A.R.E. V model starts at $1,200. With roof rack system, Compression front boot and sliding window takes it up to ~$2,000.

Nice,,

Is that for side sliding windows or just the front window?

I might need the taller Cap if I go with one for this truck, due to hauling the bikes around. Easier than taking it off each time.. That is depending on if the bike would even fit under the tall cap.. I know it certainly sits higher than the top of the truck roof..

Front sliding window .. Google A.R.E. ; they do have sliding windows as standard feature. Don't know if the bikes fit under any cap out there.

My advice: Don't buy one until you see the same model on a truck like yours. I'm on my second Raider and its a piece of crap, just like first one was.

Thanks for the info Speed,,

I had only heard about Raider from a guy I know and he didn;t have any complaints. But it was still new then.. Will have to ask him how it is now after a couple years..

My first one was junk as delivered. Paint was terrible, corners were ground as thin as potato chips and gel coat was cracked.
Dealer in Newmarket was no help at all. Told me I shouldn't expect good paint on a cheap cap. Didn't have time to fix his installation errors; told me to do it myself. Don't go there.
I got a replacement through the dealer on Hwy 7.
Real nice guy, great service, but Raider sent me another piece of crap and the dealer didn't get a penny from the company for his time and effort.
Fit and finish is terrible. You can see the spots where they filled in the Century logo to put on Raider stickers.
After numerous phone calls Truck Accessories Group (owns Raider Century and Leer) finally refunded me 1/2 of my money. I'm still stuck with a piece of crap that ruins the look of the truck that I ordered to my spec.s and intend to drive forever.

Wow,, Sounds like a raw deal indeed, Sorry that your cap hasn't worked out. at least you got some of your money back. Better than nothing I guess, but I know it still will not help the look and feel on your truck.
I think I will be keeping away from that those brands then.
Looks like Jaak may have found a good deal.. I will look into the A.R.E. and see what the cost and quality will be there. Won;t be unitl next year as I have other more pressing project to do first..

TAG has been buying up competitors to corner the market. After buying Raider they moved production to the US and consolidated moulds. Quality has plummeted. Now Raider and Century are exactly the same. Only difference is the stickers. Leer is their higher end line; costs more.
I learned a lot through 6 months of hassles with them.
Hopefully others can benefit from my mistake.
Avoid them, and their Newmarket dealer.

You're most welcome. I wouldn't want to see anyone go through what I went through. I just spent hours digging up some photos for you. I've got more on another camera and another computer somewhere. They're mostly of the crappy scratched and cracked finish, but these should illustrate my point.

Here's the first Raider cap I got:

Here's the 2nd cap Raider sent me, as a replacement:
