Question 3155944

New to 150 Do I need a winter front on my 05 150 supercab 5.4 xlt in southern Manitoba.

It doesn't hurt, I normally cut some cardboard to fit in front of the rad. I don't usually use anything until it gets to -10 and colder.

hey yeah i live in winnipeg and yeah it gets cold here i have a 90 5.8L do u think ill need to put some cardboard in for the winter?

Even down here in Southeast Missouri - when the temps are forecast to be below 20degF (I know that's like summertime for you all up North) - I'll hack a piece of cardboard that covers half the radiator area.

No need to introduce more sub-cooling than is necessary, just monitor to be sure the motor doesn't go to the other extreme and overheat.

I would definitely do it, the older engines don't build heat as well as the modular engines do and I still block the rad on my '04.

alright sweet thanks im putting a new rad into my truck tomorrow so i guess while i have it out ill make sometihng that i can fit in there nice an easliy

One trick I do is I'll cut the cardboard to fit, then make very shallow cuts into it from top to bottom about 2" apart. I'll do this about 1/2 way across. This allows me to fold it back and adjust how much rad is covered depending on what the temp is.
