Ontario's Drive Clean Program
Ontario's Drive Clean Program
To my fellow Ontario members, any beefs about the governments Drive Clean program?
Took my 2001 in for tests yesterday, and passed easily. Numbers were better than the standards as set by the gov't. My truck is 5 years old and no problems. My beef now is it took them 1/2 hour to run the tests, burning my gas, Toronto is $99.5 to $1.12 per litre and no pollution, and cost $37.50 just to get a "Pass" so that I can spend another $147.00 to renew my licence for another 2 years.
I still think its a cash cow for the gov't. Oh by the way, vehicles north of Huntsville/Muskoka and in Northern Ontario are exempt according to the coverage areas I have seen.

peele island has no coverage either, not enough registered vehicles to bother with.
i also refuse to get a 2 year licence in anything, why would you want to give that money to the government to spend foolishly for the next 2 years when you could keep it and get your own foolishness.

they also spend 15 minutes checking to see if your exhaust is altered, and so forth.
Two years ago when I last had the truck done they only ran the engine for 10 minutes. This time it was run for 1/2 an hour. I renew my licence for 2 years to avoid the hassle of line-ups for licence renewal every year. Besides, you never know when the Provincial Government is going to raise the price of a licence in their spring budgets. I figure this is a hedge against them raising the price by purchansing the sticker for 2 years. There is no savings in this as the price is the same each year. But since this is the only vehicle I own, it makes sense for me to licence it as far into the future as possible. My extended warranty expires in 2008, and at that time I hope to be living in the Sudbury area where Drive Clean is not a problem.
