Unhappy breakin up

Hi there fellow forders have a little issue with my 2000 F-150 4x4 5.4.

It seems when the ole thermometer breaks the -30 C (around -20F for our fellows south) my engine breaks up like I have a cylinder going dead and then firing again. Under load the engine breaks up but never consistently, its all over the bloody place.

What I've done so far:

Changed plugs
replaced three of the eight coils
tested the remaining coils (check out)

Could this be an injector problem???????

I tried gasline cleaner antifreeze etc no luck......

Checked wires and lines to injectors all seems to be ok

Help!!!!!!!

(oh yeah no codes at all)

Cool

dwinning, although I can't help with the direct question. I would suggest putting a post in the engine section. That way you would get the most hits for the post and it would give many more possible answers.

One question that I would have is, how good is your coolant? Will it handle that cold of a tempature and does the truck get too hot? If the truck gets too hot, it will go into limp mode which basically drops cylinders inorder to keep the motor cool enough to run to get you to a garage. Oh and the Check Engine Light will come on as well ... I think.

Have Fun & Keep on Truckin'

Thanks Dean I'll try posting to engines

As far as I know the coolant should be good to at least-40......

engine never runs hot and no light or service engine soon light.

Reset the ECU?

Hi David;

Have you tried to reset the ECU? (disconnect the battery for 30 minutes, turn on the headlites to drain any residual energy storage). Might be a long shot, but sometimes relearning under current (cold) conditions helps. You are using good gas I assume, and the proper octane for your setup ( NO 92-93 octane in a stock non-tuned vehicle).

Other maybes: dirty MAF, dirty or wonky ( intermittent) IAT, etc.

At the moment, it's just as cold where I am, and not a single problem, with lots of mods, too.

good luck. Keep us posted.

Cheers

I just had this problem with my 04 supercrew last week. I was coming home from sledding in Cochrane and the same thing at about -25c. Dealer said it was the throtle position sensor. I'm not sure if your year has the throtle by wire set up. Hope this helps some.
