Question What do you pay for insurance?

I was just curious to find out what my fellow Canucks pay to insure their trucks. In Manitoba we have public insurance and I would like to know what the difference is amongst the provinces. Mostly private VS public.

I've got an 02 Screw 4x4 and an 86 Ranger 4x4. The Screw is fully covered and the Ranger is PL,PD. The Screw has limited commercial insurance on it as I use it in my business. I pay, for both, about $1400 a year. And that is with a perfect driving record, no claims or tickets.

I have an '02 King Ranch 4x4 and a 2004 VW Jetta. Full coverage on both. Annual insurance cost is $1,480 ($740 each), with both the wife and I having clean driving records.

I believe Alberta has private insurance. I pay just over $1400 per year under public insurance. That's just for my '04 XLT. Interesting how Manitoba Public Insurance says that their rates are among the lowest in the country. There's a movement here to end MPI and allow competition. As a result MPI is fighting for it's life, that was the motivation for this thread.

Just wanted to see if what they are saying is true. This is just one more thing I believe the government should'nt be involved in. It's impossible to get a fair settlement when MPI represents both parties. They are only concerned about their bottom line.

Yes, Alberta has private insurance rather than public insurance. Like everything else, there are pros and cons. Private insurance greatly benefits drivers over 35 years of age with clean records. (35 seems to be the magic age in Alberta) As long as your record is clean, rates are very reasonable. Young drivers, even with clean records really get nailed though. Our son is 20, no accidents or tickets, and he is paying just over $3,000 per year. His rates will only decrease slightly each year until he reaches 25. After age 25, rates will be approx 1/2 of what he is paying now. provided his record is clean. If he has an accident or a couple of tickets, he could easily be looking at $5,000 + annually for insurance and the type of vehicle you drive has little bearing on the cost. For the most part I prefer private insurance over public because the rates are based on your individual record. Young drivers do get penalized though simply because of their age. I understand why that is necessary, however it does make it difficult for them to get established.

I have insurance with CAA and because I live in the Greater Totonto Area in Ontario, my premium is high. $2200.00 Only 1 claim in last 8 years, and I was rear ended, no hit on my insurance. We have No-Fault insurance in Ontario, but the insurance company investigates with the police to find out who is at fault, and depending on the outcome, you are either at fault, not at fault, or you share a degree of fault for the accident. I will be retiring soon and moving into the Sudbury area and I am hoping that my premiums will drop. Moving from a population density of 2- 3.5 million to just over 155,000 population in the Sudbury area.

Nah, it costs us about $1.21 to buy a Yankee buck, so a quick conversion amounts to $2038.00 Canadian,eh

So in other words, that's $6240.00/yr, ouch, do they at least give you a rebate on the vaseline?

I drive an 02 F150 4x4 with full coverage.
Wife drives an 03 Focus with full coverage.

We pay $1700 total.

From what I remember the break-down is about $900 for the truck and $800 for the car.
