purchass of a 2002 f-150 4x4
purchass of a 2002 f-150 4x4
My lease will son expire on a 2002 f-150 5.4 4wd supper cab. I'm interested in sharing my expeirance with this truck your expeirance with the f-150.
I'm not new to ford, or the f-150 and looking for unbaised opions on how your f-150 has served you. My truck has 42,000 km and has had numerious front suspension problems, from ball jont's, idler arm, sawy bar link and bushing's and a pair off front shocks.
Repaiers have been coverd under warenty and this truck has seen light off road use, basicly, it is my work truck.
I have not run it hard, and it has been properly serviced, and yet, I fear I have a lemmon.
This truck has cost me a lot of monthly payment's, stress and at the time of leassing, I did have asperations of purchassing this truck, now I'm not so sure I want to pay $27,000 plues gst (Government sale's tax in Canada)
I'm not interested in a 2004 f-150, that's just not an option right now. {Nor is leassing again}
HOW as yout truck held up for you?, if I buy my truck ( Sounds odd to buy your own Truck ) I wil get a an extened warenty coverage package.
Any trouble areas with your Truck? Thanks, and go FLAMES go.

First of all, yes, go Flames go. Second, that could be the worst spelling I've seen here yet-Congratulations!! I've had my '00 F-150 since new and I couldn't be happier with her. Our trucks are similar enough I guess. Mine gets me to work every day, the bed get's filled up sometimes, I don't do much hauling except for pulling other trucks out of the mud. I take her off road lots. I want more power from my v6, especially since I put on my 285/75r16 super swamper trxus mt's. I have had none of the problems you talked about. All in all I love my truck and hope to keep her forever.
Sorry to hear about your woes. I have a 2003 FX4,5.4 Scab and I love it. I leased vehicles when I could get them REALLY cheap or use them as deductions. But just to lower your monthly payment costs you more in the end. I was able to buy my truck for less than what most end of lease payoffs are. Leasing leaves you with nothing. My advice (not worth much I know
You got out...dont get back in....

hey, thank's for responding, yes my spalling is bad, haha, any how, I have decided to dump my true blue 2002 f-150 back into the hands of a local calgary dealership. Even paid off the four months left on my lease, Glad to hear my truck has no evil twins.
I have beem a loyal ford owner, now I'm gonna stray deep into the dark unknown.
My old 97 f-150 with the 4.2 and 5sp, traded her off with 220,00 km, bought it used with 100,000. Needed some mecanical repairs, Thought I would put my momey into a 2002 F-150, Dumb move on my part.
Any how, I'm not here to bash ford, if your f-150 is truly built ford tough keep if for ever, if not run away from it as fast , as fast, as you can.
Also, if you can, aviod leasing, if I wanted to keep this truck, my lease payment off 446.00 a month wouls go to 600.00 a month, for five years. Yes I knew this before, I signed on the dotted line.
Did drive a 2004 f-150 with the 5.4, much improved, felt like driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee, But I'm not taking a chance on ford again.

you got the truck that was made at 5:00pm on the Friday before a long weekend.
Every manufacturer has lemons coming off the line.
You said yourself that the 97 was a real trooper.
My 98 with 218,000 has been trouble free. I wish I could keep it, but now that I'm married with a toddler (neither were here in 98) I need to get rid of the reg cab. This is the only reason I ordered a 2004 crew cab. I look forward to the new truck, but there was nothing wrong with the old one.

A lot of my problems with the 2002 f-150 can be directly related to the Calgary Ford dealer, (service dept) If any one want's to know, I tell the name and I will back up my Statement.
The Shop foreman at this Calgary dealership was excellant, and took personel pride in in solving my concerns, problem was in dealing with the service agent's who viewd them selfs to be the mecanics.
Manny times I would show them what my truck was doing, only to be called back to find the problem, not fixed.
First problem, ratteling inside drivers and pass. doors, this was fixed.
Second problem, at 30,000 km, rattle in left front when travelling on rough roads, stearing was ok, as well as alignment, took truck in for oil change, the lube attendant took it for a drive, found nothing wrong....( at least this time the dian plug was not leaking!)
And so began my battle, three set's of upper and lower ball jont's ( including one's that came with the truck), a pair of front shocks, which they did not have in stock, Idler arm, Sway bar link's and bushing later, problem was fixed.
seven trips to get this fixed...
In january 2004, Blew out the rear rear end, service manger say's a rock struck the diff cover, causing fluid to leak ( I was traveling on a paved highway ) and that this was not coverd by warenty, $1600.00 repair was coverd by my insurance company!
Than thier was the day I decide to go off road and got a flat, could not change my tire because the whinch calbe had sessed up, Ford had a expensive tow bill thier.....
Seem's like every time I had a warrenty issue, This dealer ducked the problem, I got the feeling thiers a set limit pre-imposed by Ford on how manny warenty claims are allowed.
The niosy power stearing pump never buged me, ( Every Ford I owned had a niosy Power stearing pump) and I did like this truck, Factery six disc cd player really kicked!!!If I had her paid in full, my issues with this truck would not have bugged me, Trouble is, list price was $39,000
If any one want's the VIN, so you can aviod this truck, let me know.

I have a 02 f150 screw, and I have about 60K on it and I drive the **** out of it with no problems to show yet. I offroad it all the time and it has had a 6" susp lift and 35" tires since 20k. Altho I am starting to hear some clunking in the rear end when I mash it and hook up but I think thats the posi track, and I'm getting 456 gears in it so it will be taken care of.

(Calgary) Advantage ford..... stay away form Woodridge, Okotokes Ford (Never Could Spelll) and Big 4 Chrysler, Thier all owned by one fellow, I think is name is Ron Wood, Alot of times I have found the same trucks that circulate back and forth on thease calgary lots, It's my Sunday Habit.
My 97-150 that I bought used was one hell of a good truck, considering this 2002 f-150 was purchassed new, It has been a basket case since abought 20,000 km.
My only saving grace, or curse, was that this truck was leassed, So i'm not tied for life to it, on the othier hand, I have paid roughly $10,000 over two years and all I have is collection of work orders......
