Am I expecting too much?
I have a 2005 Dodge Durango Limited AWD with 5.7 Hemi. Due to the whole Chrysler meltdown & gas prices, I am now upside down on the thing by $8,000
They seemed guineunly(SP?) surrised I wasn't falling all over myself to sign papers.
Never did get a good explanation for the roughly $5,000+ difference
which sucks because when I bought it, I got it for about $2,000 under the Nada value...not that over-inflated KBB
anyhoo, I went to buy a 2009 Mustang Bullitt tonight. I offered the following terms. IMO they are realistic...a bit tough, but fair. I was willing to budge off my price about $1,000 if necessaryInvoice - $31500 (MSRP $34500)
- $3,500 rebates
- $750 customer loyalty
- $500 military
+ $8,500 negative equity
=35,250 + TT&L...so about $36,500-$37,000 out the door
vs what I was offered
$38,000 ($34,500 MSRP + $3,500 "Island Fees")
+5,500 negative equity
-3,500 rebates
+1,400 TT&L
=41,400 total
am I out of line here?- $3,500 rebates
- $750 customer loyalty
- $500 military
+ $8,500 negative equity

That "Island fee" is just another name for Dealer Markup. thats not a good deal at all. find another dealer to do business with, I'm not sure how many Ford Dealers there are in Hawaii, but I live in Alaska where there are only 5 or 6 in the state and I would walk away from that all day up here. now if Ford is offering Military which they allways do, and Customer loyalty which they dont always do, then the Dealer is REQUIRED to give you those rebates. the only thing a dealer has a choice on is Dealer Cash, they can Do as they please with it, Most Dealerships Give some or all as a rebate to the customer.
Yeah I know
I've had 2 of the 3 Dealerships tell me that is how they got the vehicle onto the Island. Supposedly the $4-5,000 charge is for Dock Fees, the guy to drive from dock to Dealership, and conditioning fees...yeah right.
I bought my Expy back in April. It had about $8,000 in "Island Fees" before I made them remove it.
best part is, it is the same Manager and Salesman who sold me my Expy. They know I don't play that game...and yet they're still trying it on me.
I'm going to visit the 3rd and final Dealership tomorrow. I know my version of the deal isn't ideal...but I'd rather carry over the Negative Equity than keep that damn Dodge POS. I don't know what I was thinking when I bought it...but I have some serious buyers regret now

I had to go to Ford's Website and show them the Shipping Fee section before they would admit it was a bogus charge and pull it.
Apparently they think I'm some stupid smuck who will believe their lies

and they're probably still pissed from seeing their $50,000 sticker on the Expy get knocked down to $38,000...and I still overpaid for that sucker a bit
