Quick question about ARE lids...

I have a local dealer around me who deals with ARE so I could order it from him. I'm thinking about getting one around christmas. My question is this....how does the painting of the lids work? Does ARE paint them or does the dealer you get it from paint them? I have a dark shadow grey paint on my truck and don't think they'd have them in that color pre-painted. I'm just curious how the painting of them works, and if there's any extra charge for it. Thanks for your help.

Well i got the Are model, it took about 7 days and came painted to match. I have the same color paint as you do, and it is a perfect match. Plus it is a perfect fit, and makes the truck look great. I have no complaints about this cover.

Satisfied ARE Customer

I just bought an ARE LSII and had it installed last week. I thought I would post a few thoughts on this subject.

I got mine for $799 plus $60 installation. I did not get anything extra with it. The shop I bought it from said ARE had a sale going and the lid was usually over $800, I don't remember the exact price he quoted me. The funny thing was that the other ARE dealers in the area did not know about the sale. I guess they where going to keep the difference. Also, there is a coupon on the ARE web site that will save you $25, at the least.

As for installation, I am having some problems. There is some rubbing with the shocks against the frame. Also the plastic rail along the top of the bed is buckeling. I need to take it back to the dealer for an adjustment. And I need to ask them for the touch-up paint (Thanks for the pointer Mike.).Diablo SCrew

I had the same problem with the rails buckeling. I was told by ARE that the clams have to be inserted into the notch in the rail and tightened slowly (have someone hold the clamp while you tighting it). If the rail is buckling, you may have problems with the lock bars and also body paint damage from it rubbing. When mine was installed originally, I watched the guy, it took him about an hour to get the clams on the right way so the rail dont buckel in.

Angry More ARE Adjustments

Thanks NY Black for the heads up on the installation. I will pass the information on to my dealer.

By the way, my lid is really messed up now. I have only had it for a week. Any way, there was some rubing with the springs and as mention before the rail was buckeling. I took it back into the deal for an adjustment. They worked on it for a while and the problems got worse. They have a new lid on order for me. I guess we will do it all over again.
