Question bedliners/tonneau covers

I just bought a 2002 XLT Supercrew 2 weeks ago and I am looking forward in doing some mods. What would be the best buy for a bedliner and a tonneau cover. Help!

Hi George,

Let me formally welcome you to F150online.
Great people and advice here, I think you will enjoy it.

To answer your question:
"What would be the best buy for a tonneau cover and bedliner"

You have to first decided on
1) How much money you want to spend, and
2) How will you be using your truck.

The least expensive route will be a plastic drop in bedliner, and a soft tonneau cover.

Will you be hauling gravel, dirt, sand, junk, chickens in your bed?
If so, then a spray in liner would probably best serve your needs.

Do you want the convenience of being able to lock your tonneau cover?
Yhen you have a choice between a hard lid, or some type of roll-top.

Then there are cap options as well.
Take a look at what other people will post, and look at everything until you see what you like, then make a decision on what appeals to you the most.

I've owned a cap, a soft tonneau cover and currently a roll top.
My present configuration is what I like best. This best serves my needs. What I like best about it is that I can go from fully open, and having the full use of an open bed, to fully closed and locked in 5 seconds.

Heres a few pictures of a bedrug & Pace-Edwards roll-top.

Good luck trying to decide.

Habibi

I've had my Access Cover for almost 2 years, easy install, easy to roll-up. Good Luck.

I have a Rhino Liner sprayed in my bed. I had a '94 a few years back with a drop in plastic liner and got interested in a sprayed on liner. When I took the drop in out, it was obvious to me that it is nearly impossible to keep those things from sliding around - there were rubs and rust all over th bed. Sure you don't see them, but I know for sure that the Rhino doesn't move. Check my pictures for some of the back end of my '01.

George,

Welcome. Habibi made some excellent points to consider. What are your goals and what is your budget?

As he indicated, if one of your driving factors in covering your bed is security, you have three main choices (cap, hard cover, roll-top), but then many choices after that (ARE, Leer, Pace-Edwards, Roll N Lock, Retrax to name a few). If you just want to cover it, and aren't really concerned about securing the contents, there are many cheaper alternatives (Extang, CoverCraft, Sttel Horse, etc). For myself, security was the primary concern, without hindering the ability to haul large items. This led me to choose a roll-top. After looking at the market, I went with the Retrax (I think the priciest of the rolltops, but I could be wrong). All of the "big 3" in the roll-top market have websites so you can compare and contrast, and see what is more to your liking. Do a search in "Other Aftermarket" for rolltop or retrax, and you will find many posts talking about these at length, as well as links to all of the websites. When you decide what you want - shop around for the best price, or post on here telling what you want and someone will probably be able to point you in the right direction!

As far as the bed liner goes, I went with a drop-in (Pendaliner SR) on my '00, but opted for a bed mat (heavy duty rubber) in my '02. A lot of people have opted for the BedRug, which looks great IMO, just wasn't something that I thought would hold up with what I haul. Think about what will be in your bed, and that will help guide you.

Forgot to add: Here is a pic of the Retrax installed:
