Question Tailgate Mat???????

Although i don't usually carry that much stuff in my bed, and when i do i try to keep it away from the walls and tgate, and i don't set anything on the tgate, some scratches have accumulated on there. I wouldn't worry about it cuz you can't see it, but when i go to shows i have the tonneau open and tailgate down and the scratches look kinda ugly. They aren't deep or a whole bunch of em, but its not pretty. You detail maniacs like myself should know how i feel. Anyway i was thinking about getting a tailgate mat, but i don't wanna drill a bunch of holes. I was thinking of maybe using velcro (its got very strong adhesive). Do you guys think this would work. Also does anybody know who sells tailgate mats that don't have a bunch of holes in it for screws or the indents for paintcans and such. I'm pretty much looking for a plain rubber mat for it. It'd be cool if i could find one that said Harley, but i doubt that's gonna happen. Thanks for any help. Also does anybody know where i can get a tailgate seal? Dust and dirt just loves to blow in through the tailgate crack and my bed gets super nasty pretty quick. Thanks again.

O yeah, and a sprayin liner isn't an option for me, and i don't have the money for a bed rug. Thanks

If you can't afford to blow $280 on a BedRug, you might consider making your own custom tailgate mat.

Pick up some marine-grade carpet, have some heavy-duty velcro strips installed and attach it the same way the BedRug is installed on the tailgate (know anyone with a BedRug that you could take a look at?).

Maybe I'm dreaming, but it might work?

Yeah, No offense but I know I can't afford an HD but 300.00 for a Bed Rug is pretty affordable. Especially, if your showing your truck.

I guess if you really don't want to go that route than the idea of getting some marine carpet or since you have a tonnaue you can proably get away with just outdoor carpet like they sell at home depot and make it yourself.

I thought of just getting a bed mat when I was looking at protecting the bed on my new truck but they just protected the bottom and not the sides or the gate. SO I went with the bed rug as my first mod.

Good luck and let us know what you decide to do....

Thanks for the suggestions/help guys. If i can find some plain rubber that wouldn't look cheap or like a hack job, i'll do it myself. Cuz if i order one, they come with holes already in it. I don't wanna do carpet on the tgate cuz it wouldn't match the rubber bedmat.

Montinore, where did you find a bed rug for 280 bucks??? I thought they were a little over 300.

No offense taken. but with payments for the HD, gas money for that and my old truck that only gets 10 to the gallon, an all the other little expenses here and there, its too much for me right now. The bed rug isn't the 1st on my ongoing list of mods either, so thats why just a rubber mat would do the trick for now. Before i'm getting the rug, i'm gonna order a cervini's hood (sometime this month) thats 439 bucks there, i have to get it painted and installed (who knows how much that'll be), I wanna get the functional kit when it comes out (175??), i wanna get an airforce one FIPK (250), 2" drop shacles (60), and i just spent around 150 bucks on materials for my custom tonneau cover inserts that i should finish tomorrow. Since its a show truck, these other more radical (well more radical than a bedrug) appearance and performance mods will come 1st. I'd love to get a rug cuz the protection and they look great, but other things have to come 1st. Thanks for the help though guys.

This guy has a website but is best to just call or e-mail him direct. Best price I've seen, by far: $270 for SuperCrew, $280 for standard. (Prices may have changed now, this was back in February or March when I bought mine.)

Price includes shipping via Fed-Ex direct from the factory. No hidden charges.

I went to my local Penda bedliner dealer and ordered just the tailgate cover. It cost me $35 about 1 1/2 years ago. It installs using just the access cover bolts that are already in the tailgate.

That would be an option if you would be willing to go with a plastic cover instead of a rubber mat.
