Question The Bed Rug (2)

Howdy,

Wow, all these positive testimonials have just about made me ready to purchase the Bed Rug! Just a few last questions to you Bed Rug owners before I pick-up the phone.

1. How does this Marine foam do when something very heavy has been placed on it? (Like a heavy motorcycle). I am picturing potential endentations in my mind. Hope not.

2. It is hard to remove if and when you want it out?

3. Does it hold water after a heavy rain?

Thanks a bunch,

No, yes, and yes.
1. The indentions go away within a moment or two of off-loading heavy objects. I have hauled full beds of firewood, riding lawn mowers, 400 pound weight sets[with bench], and everything else a pickup can haul.
2. The velcro tabs work so well together that they want to pull the 3M tape off of the bed rather than come unstuck, so I have never tried to remove it completely. I did not prep the bed before I put the velcro in, so perhaps it is my fault.
3. Water stays in an open bed just like it would with a bed liner. It dries just as soon as you take off and the water drains out of the back.
In general, the Bedrug has done everything that it claimed that it would do. It is my favorite mod to date, even if it is not the most visible. Mine remained uncovered and subject to the elements for a year and two months before I finally covered it with ARE's Z-series carpet lined topper. Their carpet was an exact match to the Bedrug, and I am very pleased with the final look. you can check it out in the galleries under NoLimits.

Bedrug

I tie down motursikuls in the back of mine. After haulin' a
few times, I decided to take out the rug and check fer
damage. There was no damage to the truck bed. The
rug holds up fairly well too. The rug gets matted where
the tires get pinned down, and the rug pulls away from the
corners a bit. You can see the installation instructions on
my page.

Thumbs up Thanks Fred150XLT and NoLimits.....

Thanks for the comments Fred150XLT and NoLimits!

Well I got the BedRug in last weekend and overall I love it. It fits so perfect and looks very tailored. Gives the bed of your truck a lotta class!

The timing however was off. I have had my hard tonneau cover on order for over 3 weeks and it still is not in. My luck ran out this week with all the rain in S.Texas and my BedRug is totally soaked. I know this thing is meant for all weather conditions, I just wanted to keep it dry until I could get the bed cap installed.

Just wondering how long it takes to dry-out? Tonneau cover may be here in a couple of days and I wanted things dry before closing it all up.

Any BedRug owners holler back if you can advise.

Gotta roll w/ the punches.

Pardon my ignorance and jumping in here, but who is the manufacturer of this bed rug and what other choices are there out there so I can do more research as you now have me interested.

I bought mine at TNT services http://www.tntserve.com/truck_bed_li...e_edwards.htm.

Your other choices are drop-in, or spray-in. I have had both, it was time for something new. I never get my truck beds that messy anymore so the BedRug was a good option for me.

The brand name is Bed Rug.

I think Steel Horse has one too.

I'm sure there are others.

I just ordered a Steel Horse Tailgate Gap Cover Professional Series from truckperformance.com. It's a plastic strip with aluminum strip on each side. The aluminum strips screw into the bed and tailgate, and the plastic folds between. They make an adhesive version too, but I like the idea of something more permanently attached. I'm planning on getting a BedRug later on too, but I wanted something now to seal the bed (I have a tonneau and carry my medical kit in the bed). Haven't gotten it yet, but it looks good. I'll probably add some sort of gasket material on the vertical sides too, but haven't decided for sure. I think you can get the plan self-adhesive gasket from JC Whitney.

OK, here's a question, anyone have to take out the factory plastic liner? Mine had shoulder bolts and now stick up on the tailgate. I know I can go to the scrap heap and find shorter bolts. What did anyone else do? BTW, I bought my bedrug on Ebay with no problems. I did not prep the bed as good as I could have other than hand washing after the drop in was out. Velcro seems to be sticking well to the metal though. Awesome mod!

The shoulder bolts create an issue - their course thread tears up the sheetmetal - the factory screws were finer thread metric bolts. You might try going to a size larger self-tapping screw.

Have to put in my thoughts on this company. Had their Bedrug in my 2006 and loved it. Got rid of that truck and got a 2008 and kept the Bedrug for the new truck. Called and explained this to the Bedrug people and without hesitation they offered to send our a new installation kit for the new truck. No million questions, hassles or anything like that. Great pproduct, great customer service. Others ought to follow their example.

I am sort of interested, though it will depend on tax returns.

I basically load my truck with a couple of dirtbikes, ocasional lumber and more often than not a couple of mountain bikes (bicycles) and a cooler. I guess other than being a little muddy, there is nothing too hardcore that I am putting back there. Shoot, two 250cc two-strokes a gas can and a small tool box for the bikes is the biggest load the bed will see... and that's only ~500 pounds. How easily does the bedrug clean-up compared to say a spray on liner, or my factory plastic drop-in? How is the static electricity from the carpet? I wouldn't want to ignite the gas going down the road.
