SETCHAN had it done to his and he said (in another thread) that except for the screws getting stripped when they reinstalled the tailgate protector, it worked out fine.

I'm not sure what to do. Let me know what you think.

Thanks again!
Sorry for the delay, I was on vacation.

We offer our customers the option of applying LINE-X to the tailgate or not, price does not change. If you will notice, the factory plastic cover does not cover the entire tailgate. I would say 60% want it covered with LINE-X and 40% don't care (and so it does not get LINE-X'd). Either way is fine though.

I had the Rhino Liner on my last three trucks and have been happy with all three. I will be getting a new F-150 Screw and I just left the Rhino Liner and Line-X Dealers on Camp Bowie in Ft Worth and still not sure which way to go. Examples of each both looked comparable in quality, thickness and attention to detail with the application of materials. Money is not the only issue, Rhino wants $525 for the color matching liner but admits UV rays will cause fading over time and the lifetime warranty covers most other issues. Line-X wants $700 for the color matching liner and I have to drive to Arlington( another 1/2 further). The only difference I could glean was maybe fading would be less of an issue with Line-X premium. Any owner feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks

I can help you, but I have one question first: For a color other than black, is the Rhino guy selling you topcoated or non-topcoated Tuff Stuff, Tuff Grip, or Hardline or is he selling you Solarmax?

By the way, here's LINE-X applied under the tailgate step's plastic.

Not sure which one, I was told they would have to get the paint codes. Sorry.

OK, well no problem, I'll try to cover all bases. Many F150online forum member know I'm a LINE-X dealer, it's only fair to advise you of that fact in case you didn't know.

If Rhino is selling you topcoated Tuff Stuff, Tuff Grip, or Hardline, then they are topcoating the bedliner with an automotive paint. This is what LINE-X was doing about 7 years ago. The problem is that automotive paint is not durable enough for a truck bed and you can fairly easily wear through the topcoat. Realizing this problem, LINE-X approached Dupont and after about 2 years of research, the LINE-X Xtra product was introduced. Xtra is WAY more durable than regular automotive paint. Xtra is co-owned by LINE-X and DuPont. No other bedliner company has a product like Xtra. So, Xtra is the winner here.

Now, Rhino also sells a product called Solarmax. It's not really a Rhino product, Rhino buys it from Bayer and Rhino sells it. Actually, any bedliner company can buy the chemicals, including LINE-X, but the Xtra product is superior, here's why: Pigments are added to Solarmax at about a max concentration of 30%. You can't add anymore pigment. So, if they can't get to the right color with a 30% load, then the color won't match. So, it's a crap-shoot whether or not Solarmax will actually match or not. LINE-X Xtra does not have this 30% load problem. In addition, Xtra will contain the metallic flakes like your truck's paint (if any). Solarmax is not a bad product, I want to make that clear, but for color matching, Xtra is superior.

For a black bedliner, LINE-X Premium is by FAR the best deal. For one, it's way stronger than Rhino Tuff Grip and Hardline. Specifically, Premium has a 31% higher tear strength, a 53% higher tensile strength, and a 45 degree higher temperature tolerance. In addition, LINE-X Premium is UV stable (aliphatic, resists fading) while Rhino Tuff Grip, Hardline (and Tuff Stuff) are not UV stable (aromatic) and will fade with sun exposure.

The LINE-X dealer on Camp Bowie is THE number one Xtra dealer in the U.S. and recently won a LINE-X award for it. In addition, they actually apply a clear topcoat to Xtra bedliners which provides an additional layer of protection and makes the bedliner easier to clean. Not all LINE-X dealers do this, I don't know if the Arlington dealer does it or not.

Now for some pics!

This what you can get if you use an inferior topcoat like regular automotive paint. This bedliner is probably either Rhino Tuff Stuff or Toff.

Here is Rhino color match with Solarmax. The bedliner looks very nice, but it does not match the truck. I have seen Solarmax color matches that do match, but not this one.
