Do it yourself bed liners....good or bad?

I am thinking of doing a roll in bed liner myself to save a few $$. Has anyone used Duplicolor liner or Herculiner from Autozone, Discount, or etc... I don't haul alot of stuf in the bed of my truck so I was wondering if anyone has done this or knows the difference between doing it yourself versus having it sprayed in? I know there is a price difference but what about quality? Thanks in advance.

I'm a LINE-X dealer, so you will think I'm biased, but I'll say this:

The DIY stuff is not as durable as professional products. That's just the way it is. The chemistry is different, the components are different, and the application methods are different (in most cases).

That isn't to say that a DIY product is not right for you. Just don't expect a whole lot. Analogy: Some people buy a few cans of Krylon spray paint and paint their entire truck with it. Who are we to say that they shouldn't do it? But, I don't think I would ever paint my truck with Krylon spray paint.

If you use a DIY product, READ THE DIRECTIONS! Also, many of them will fade badly and fast, so you also may have to paint it.

I have used Herculiner many times now, and for the money, it can't be beat. DO NOT expect the same results as Linex or Rhino, but, for a DIY product, it helps alot. The main thing is the PREP WORK. Get that done correctly, and the overall result will be much better, and durable. I've had Herculiner in my '02 King Ranch now since the spring of '04, and it still looks great. I did, however, use the UV protecter to keep it from fading, which it has done it's job. For someone that is NOT a contractor, or does alot of heavy work with their truck, the Herculiner is hard to beat. I can't say anything about the Duplicolor, or any of the others, as I have not used them. I actually used two gallons of Herculiner in my bed, (as well as the floor of my little bass boat, and some other stuff), and got both of them on sale, plus, rec'd a rebate on top of that. My total for the two gallons, and UV protector was $110. I am on disability, so money has to go as far as I can stretch it, so even attempting to save for Linex, was out of the question.

Just remember to spend a LOT of time on the prep, and you will be fine. Good luck with it.

If you can afford line x, go that route. I have put in diy bed liners and did lots of prep work, but line x is just awesome.
