Question Question - How secure is the Backflip F1 really?

Hi all,

I Just ordered my first new truck: F150 FX4 + Lux/Tow last week and I guess I'm getting ahead of myself with looking at Mods before it even arrives but...

I've pretty much decided on the BAK Flip F1 Tonneau cover after playing with a friend's G2. I know the plastic cover is rated for 500 lbs of weight and is the strongest/lightest, etc but the real question is how secure is it - really?

How hard is it to for lack of a better word Jimmy or cut though the thing? It's clamped on, could you simply pry bar it open off without setting off the stock F150 FX4 Alarm? I'm starting to wonder if the HD with the aluminum might be better security than the F1 but not sure.

Anyone with the F1 Flip out there eve had any problems or can speak to this I would really appreciate the input! Thanks.

They could pry up the rear panel just because you can stick a crowbar in where the rear seal is. I don't think the F1 would be any better than the HD, it has more to do with the design, not the material.

Personally, I would not worry about it. If they want in, they will get in.

I have an F1 it's as sturdy as an HD or G2.I could open it with a coat hanger or a crowbar. No cover is completely secure if you're worried about what's in the bed ,don't leave it in the bed.If I'm staying in a hotel or motel I empty the bed.In my driveway I'm not worried. The extang solid fold is the most secure of the folding type tonneau but I like the conveinence of the bakflip.Good Luck

Thanks for the input, I think I will go with the F! as soon as my FX4 arrives. Out of all of them I looked at I really liked it the best anyway.

morrie@dinamitetbs.com gave me the best price I could find for my F1.$849 no tax no shipping.I had two minor problems that were taken care of by Morrie,so far I'm happy with the cover I get a little water in the bed but as soon as it warms up I should be able to eliminate that with a bit of weatherstripping.Email morrie and he will call you and give you a price.

Thanks everyone! Definitely ordering the F1 once my truck arrives!

Has anyone purchased the bak box add on and if so how much space does it take up when folded up? It's hard to tell how flat it folds up and there are times its nice to have a toolbox back there but there are also times when you need to load a stack of drywall or plywood in there and need the cargo space. I can definitely see it coming into use when (if?) football season starts back up next year for tailgating since it's insulated.
