Colored spray in bedliner

Howzit all?

Was hoping someone could tell me how companies color their spray in bedliners.

I just got mine done today, I wanted silver to match my new Ingot Silver FX2, but when I went to pick it up, the bedliner was black. Needless to say I was psd off. They admitted their mistake and offered to fix it if I was willing to wait an hour while they sprayed on the color. She said black is the base color of all bedliners, color is sprayed on after. ??? I'm clueless. Is this true across the board? Line-X, Rhino etc...

Another question. If that IS the case and all bedliner base colors are black, has anyone run into the issue of the black showing up when the color scratches? Seems to me a no-brainer that it would.

Thanks for your feedback.

Which brand of liner did you go with? That will help answer the question.

I have line X in the bed of my truck and wheel wells and also had the hitch done. All in black... Not sure the process when it comes to the color match liners... I have looked into having my rockers done in DSG...

But not sure if they use black first...

I would say call another shop "one that didn't screw up" that does the same brand you just got done and ask them the process...

If they use black as the base and then the color....

If so it must be the way it is...

If not IMO your better off leaving your bed black as I would think the color if hit good with something sharp woud waer though and show the black...

GreenBuck - I went with Pamalu here in Hawaii. It's an off shoot of Lava Lining. We don't have Rhino or Line-X here on Oahu any longer. No idea what product they use.

Mr. X - Yep, that was my thinking exactly. If they just paint on the color then best to leave it black. I'm a contractor and that bed will be getting plenty of abuse in it's future. Black does look pretty dang good too, just figured here in the hot Hawaiian sun a black bed will turn into a radiator. Good thing I won't be sitting back there.

I have Line-X with Xtra and with it the Xtra is the color plus added protection and is an added layer to my knowledge. I am not familiar with your brand!

All of the LINE-X dealers that I know (including myself) pigment the LINE-X resin so it closely matches the truck's paint and then use LINE-X Xtra which has the same pigments as the paint. Xtra even has the same metallic flakes.

LINE-X Xtra color match. There's no black anywhere in these bedliners!

TruckGasm - Now that's the product I was hoping to get! I really like that Ingot Silver bed. Unfortunately, the only LINE-X dealer in the state of Hawaii is on the Big Island and I live on Oahu. Bummerz. Oh well, the black is growing on me and they gave me a substantial discount, so can't complain.

Thanks all for your replies.

Your black bedliner is most likely aromatic, meaning it's sensitive to UV light from the sun and will eventually lose its gloss and fade a bit. To keep that from happening, apply an "Armoral" type product that contains UV protection. Armoral is too greasy for a truck bed, try Just Once (justonce.com), 303 Aerospace, or check your local stores. Apply the protectorant 2 or 3 times a year with a rag.

I wisk I would have seen this thread before I had mine " Rhino Lined Black ". I must admit that the shop did put a good heavy coat on.

They need to. It has only half the tensile strength of LINE-X and about a third less tear strength.
