Ford Flipping Hardcover Issue
Folks, I got my 2010 FX4 and had the dealer install the Ford Accessories bed cover, hard one that flips back, on my 5.5' bed. I noticed when it rains the water dribbles through the seam seal area of the hard cover along the edges. Is this normal or has the dealer not installed it properly? Does the rails need to be adjusted closer towards the centre to stop the water flow? Is there something I can do to stop this? It seems to be the seals closest to the cab and the next on back from it.

yep, it's a rebadged Bakflip HD. here's what they have to say about leaks along the side like that:
If the cover is leaking where the it meets the side rail, it is 99% of the time a result of the rail not being close enough to the side of the cover. The result is that instead of the water travelling along the hinge and dumping into the drain gutters in your side rails, the rain is dumping out of the hinge short of the drain gutters.
The solution is simply to position a larger shim along the side rails, thereby causing the rails to sit further inwards and closer to the side edge of the cover. This usually settles leakage issues as described.
If you contact BAK, they should be able to send you the larger shims.

Got back from the dealer today with a new cover!
I went over the old one with a fine tooth comb and noticed the following issue. The rubber hindge seams has a seal that was anywhere from 1/4 to 1/2 short on each end which allowed the water to leak in. The Managers at the dealership noted this as well and looked at a few others with the same issue. They received a new 5 1/2' cover and noticed right away that the seal has been improved. It now streaches from end to end and they have added two ridges to the seal that now compresses into the gap. The cover was replaced and we did a water flow test. The bed stayed dry with the water flowing off the cover and over the sides. There was very little in the channel and drain tubes to speak of. It is supposed to rain this Saturday so we shall see if it stays dry.
Looks like Bak Flip has redesigned the seal ... well at least the ones they provide to Ford Canada.

hey good to hear that. BAK does seem to upgrade their products from time to time (which is a good thing). I did hear recently that they revised the seals on the HD to the same spec as the F1 cover.

Such as: They had a G2 that was made of ABS plastic, then they made them out of aluminum and then the HD (also aluminum) was introduced. There was a time of confusion: Some people had plastic G2's, some had aluminum G2's, and some had aluminum but didn't know if it was a G2 or HD.
Also, keep in mind that some dealers may still have inventory of aluminum OEM covers.

They had a lot of 6 1/2' in stock ... no 5 1/2', which they had to order in. Warehouse is 15 miles away from dealer.
We had a bit of rain today and no leaks so far.

The F1 came out in November 09 and we thought the OEM cover was upgraded to the same FRP around that time but it was not. around same time the G2 was upgraded to aluminum panels. As of just this last month, the HD was revised to include the same hinge seals as the F1 has and also added that little handle that hangs on the release cable.
I just talked to Julian at BAK and he said the OEM is still based off the HD for now. But they are undergoing the OEM tests on the F1 and hope to upgrade the OEM to the FRP panels by next year.
also if you are going by this website: http://bakfliptonneaucover.com/bakflip_f1 which seems like you are, that is not the official BAK industries website. as it was pointed out before (and on the other forum too), if you see at the bottom of that webpage, it says it's just some truck accessory store in Texas. BAK is located in California. Also, I notice these guys are selling the HD again, before when the F1 came out they must have thought the HD went away because they didn't list it on their website for awhile.
