Topper Help 2010 SCREW Montgomery County Stinks

I need a topper to give an "SUV appearance" so states my last parking ticket. All recommendations w/photos appreciated.

Montgomery County MD sucks--no truck parking. I now have two tickets for parking my truck in two different communities. My kids live there, as does my ex wife's family. They have an ordnance forbidding trucks from parking for other than offload and onload. They have designated truck parking along the busy commercial streets which are about 3/4 mile away. Last ticket says the only way to avoid a ticket is to get a topper the same height and color code of my truck so it has an SUV appearance. What B.S.

NY used to have a law that you needed a cap/topper/shell to drive on certain roads. It was total BS, if you didn't have a cap on your truck you needed commercial truck license plates and were banned from driving on parkways. Plunk a cap on the truck and then you could have passenger license plates and drive where ever you want to. Finally they changed it a few years ago, and now if your truck weighs less than 5,000 pounds you get to pick what type of plates you want - cap or not. If it's over 5,000 pounds, you're still doing things the old way.

IMO, any "cab-hi" fiberglass cap will give your truck an SUV appearance. I've had lots of Leers with good results, and on my current truck I have a Raider cap. I have a few pics in my profile here of my Raider cap, and pics of my other trucks in the webshots link below.

Good Luck, BS laws are a pain to deal with.

geez, i'm just across the river in nova, and they're already trying to "beautify" my county with similar nonsense. I bought a place without a homeowner's association for just that reason, i didn't want some pinhead telling me what I could park where.

there are a fair amount of caps around in dc/baltimore cl. paint to match is another thing, might have to bust out the spray can. sad though.

Yup, now $1600 lighter for a Lund 100XL top. Hope to have it in a couple days. Strill looks like I'll be able to put an engine and tranny back there with the top on. I was worried It wouldn't be a truck anymore... We'll see. These laws have done nothing to help increase property values as those who drive trucks generally WORK and keep their trucks and homes well maintained!

Thanks for sharing my pain.

Ummm, I think you mean Leer 100XL?? LOL! When they install your new 100XL, from experience, make sure they remove the factory 3rd brake light bulb in the roof of the truck BEFORE they put the cap/topper on. It really sucks if they forget as it'll really glare at night between the cab and cap/topper.

Also, make them install a new wire (with inline fuse) right to the + battery post for your dome light, and also make sure they tap into the factory feed for your third brake light. A LOT of places will be lazy / not care and just tap the dome light wire into your taillight wire (which will make the cap dome light only work with the taillights on - stupid) and tap the 3rd brake light in the cap into one of your brake lights in the truck (which will make it flash with the blinker - stupid & illegal). I'd like to see a pic of your new "suv" appearing truck.

I would take both tickets you received and go back to see if they'll drop them since you just spent $1600 to make them happy.

Thanks for the advice. I'm only going to have them install it for "free." I will take care of the wiring and stuff.
