Bed cap removal
Bed cap removal
Any tips for removing factory bed caps?
I just purchased a pair of SS Rocket Lockers from Putco. As most bed rails do, these also make use of the stake pockets. The bed caps that came with my truck do not have insert caps that can be pull out/off to access the stake holes. I need to remove the entire cap to see exactly where the stake holds are located then carefully cut a rectangle opening in the cap to allow penetration for the rubber hold downs that come with the Rails.
The only advice that my Ford (dealer) mechanic could offer is not to remove them in the cold for obvious reasons.
I don't know if the caps are held down with 3M tape or if they have snaps that need to be removed. To add to the issue - I have a Ford bedliner installed so I can't see the underside of body.

The rail caps do not have 3M tape. See the picture below. There are two methods to remove them:
1. Lift up hard, but you might break a tab on the plastic rail.
2. Get underneath the rails and squeeze each set of tabs and lift up. You will need some help and it's going to take a while.
Not a new truck, but Ford still does it this way.
