Soft folding tonneau question

Hey guys, newbie here. I picked up my very first F-150 last week. 2010 Supercrew Lariat 4x4. I have wanted one of these for a long time and I finally pulled the trigger! On to my question....

I had the dealer add the Ford soft folding tonneau cover. My question is about the rubber flap that sits against the top of the tailgate when closed. Should this flap be inside or outside the tailgate when closed? I hope this makes sense. I am looking to keep this as waterproof as possible. If anyone has any other tips for keeping water out they sure would be appreciated.

Thanks
Adam

I have a different cover but I keep the rubber flap on the inside and I can go through a car wash with no issues.
