I just installed my bakflip G2 today and gotta say it looks pretty nice installed on the truck I will take some pictures and post them later.
I have a quick and stupid question how can you tell the bakflip G2 from the bakflip HD.
when i was installing the G2 today i noticed where they drilled the hole's to bolt the lid to the rail the panel was metal. I thought the G2 was plastic. did they stick a HD in a G2 box by mistake.

Well, originally, the G2 was Lexan (plastic) and the HD was aluminum. But, the current information is confusing and it's possible that they may have dropped the plastic altogether. Someone needs to call them directly and find out.

well I did hear of a G2 "hybrid" version that they briefly produced that did have metal panels, so maybe you got one of them.

I had a small problem with mine getting some water in off the rear end of the channel due to parking on a slight incline and had to call Bakflip. I spoke with the owner who quickly sent me another set of drains and hoses for the back end.
While talking with him, he mentioned that any "G2" bought and/or shipped directly from BF(in the last month) is in fact an HD!!!! He said that they stopped making G2 and have no stock of them at the factory
I got mine for a steal under $600.00 shipped, so the deal was even better!

Ginfest, Is your Bakflip the HD model and did you purchase it directly from Bak Industries for this price?

I purchased it online (not sure if I can list the website, PM or email me for the name)
It was drop-shipped directly from Bak
When I had a small issue and spoke with the owner, he told me that production of the G2 had stopped and all Bakflips shipped directlly from the factory were in fact the HD model.
Other than the metal panels, I have no idea how to confirm this? Mine does have the panels but I can't find any pics on the web G2 vs HD.

Ford OEM BakFlip Pics

Just shined up my truck yesterday, I installed the OEM Hard folding cover last weekend. (BakFlip HD) So far so good! I used Turtle Wax ICE on the truck worked great on all the plastic and around the window molding.

I contacted BAK and here's some info:

The current G2 and the HD use aluminum panels. The differences between the G2 and the HD are:
1. The G2's surface goes through one priming step and the HD's surface goes through two priming steps.
2. The HD is slightly more rigid because the core material is slightly more rigid.

Keep in mind that some dealers may have G2's in stock that are made of plastic. All the currently manufactured G2's are aluminum.

I live in Northern Ontario and we experience some serious winter weather here and my HD has performed flawlessly. I would recommend this to anyone looking for something functional and stylish at the same time. I always get asked where I bought it and how much. I used to be a cap guy, now I'll never go without the tonneau.
