I think it would help a little but not the 10% that most companies claim. I just put my Bakflip HD on a couple of days ago so the jury is out on the extra MPG. I'm not looking for much of a change. I was looking for more security of the bed items than extra MPG.

According to Mythbusters, it won't really help.

Tailgate Up or Down Revisited: in addition to tailgate up/down, also tested hardcover over pickup bed, tailgate removed, and tailgate mesh. Tailgate mesh was most efficient by 5%. busted
Google it.

I didn't notice anything. I go the same amount of miles on a tank of gas.
