Bed liner doesnt adhease to plastic?

So I just called and got a price quote from Inyatti, and they told me that they can spray the bed rail caps and the top of my bumper because the liquid doesnt adhease to plastic very well? Can anyone confirm this?

I guess I'll just have to spray paint them black. This arizona sun as really faded all the hard plastic on my truck over the last 8 years...

I've read that elsewhere. Even with a good scuff, it just doesn't adhere to the ever-flexing plastic.

Have you tried black wow or any other black product on the rear bumper topper? It's worth a try before you paint it, because in my opinion, it'll look better faded than it would chipped.

I have a slide-in bedliner, but I use the roll-on liner on exposed areas on my tailgate and bed. I found that the roll-on bedliner will just peel up once it dries on the plastic bedliner.

So, no it doesn't stick to plastic.

Well, we apply LINE-X to plastic under certain conditions and have had no problems thus far with the applications.

That said, I don't recommend you apply a bedliner product to the rail caps. The bumper might be OK.

Consider using Krylon Fusion. It's formulated specifically for plastics. Be sure to read the directions and prep the surface as directed.

I used the Fusion on my cowl as have several. It works well. Penguine painted her rails recently.

Curious, why not spray the caps with Line-x? I would think the bumper would not be a good place as a small bump would crack it. Neither dealer in Charlotte I talked to would spray the caps. Painting only lasts as long as you don't put anything in the bed. Once it is scratched and you wax it, it looks terrible.

The plastic on the rails is too flimsy and is not anchored to the truck all that well. They also tend to warp. We like to encapsulate plastic as much as possible. That's not possible with the rail caps, so that's another strike "against".

Keep in mind that even if you decide to get a bedliner sprayed on it anyway, it's going to fade also unless you opt for UV protection (like LINE-X Xtra).

The bumper pieces are more sturdy and in some cases can be encapsulated or mostly encapsulated.

Thanks for the info. I think I am going to spray with the rattle can bed liner. At least that stuff should fade evenly to a gray, the plastic is very uneven. I shaved the ridges off and wet sanded with 80 grit, so it shoud adhere pretty well. Mine were painted and and after waxing, you can see the scratches and stars from the tabs. Worst case, I have to go buy new ones which is what I would need to do any way.

Thats what I did...dont waste your time. Looked great for 2 days before it started flaking and peeling.

So it looks like regular old paint it is. Krylond Fusion FTW

Thanks for chiming in, what did you do to fix it? I just hate the way the bed rails look.

I've seen people on this and other forums talk about Showroom New Restorer.

Here's a threat about it with some pictures of the results.
