Thumbs up American Roll Cover/AutoAnything.com

Installed my Truck Covers USA American Roll Cover Friday. Took a while to accomplish, some of that could have been due to the help I had though.

And yes, it's dirty!! That's what happens when you live in the sticks, have a gravel driveway and haul hay all day. gotta eat!

AutoAnything.com had a smoking deal on them, got mine for $1236.24! No one else was even close! I'll be keeping those folks pretty high on my list. Sign up for their email alerts, they have 10% off specials pretty often and even 15% occasionally and no shipping. They treated me right!

So far it's beating the heck outta the tool box I had on the '99 SCAB. It'll be a while before I know if it's worth every penny though.

Oh yeah, disregard all the non-Ford products in the backgrounds. Pix were taken at my parents' house. Dad does have a nice F250 Crewcab 4x4 though!

Now to add the power tailgate lock to make sure it's secure all the time. No more worrying when in town or on trips about losing cargo.

That is the exact cover I am wanting to get for my truck. How do you like it so far?

Nice clean look! I love it! If I didn't already have a fiberglass cover I would look into this.

In my opinion, it's the BEST retractable cover. Installation is more difficult but you only have to do it once!

Pix taken at parents' house, and technically it's concrete not paved....

I went with keyless entry also, worth every penny!

Hey, txarsoncop can you answer a couple of questions for me? That’s the cover I’m looking at cause it says it can hold up over 500 pounds, figure that would be the more secure one.
Not being smart or confrontational I’m just a first time Ford buyer and this is the first time I’ve had a truck with the locking tailgate. Are they good or can scumbags still get it open?

    Thanks for the time.

It seals pretty well with some caveats:
    • Rain, we've hardly had any & none of it has been heavy.
    • Dust, I haul "stuff" in my bed (hay, sheep, feed, etc.) so I don't have a tailgate seal.
In the few (light to moderate) rains we've had I had no water in the bed (truck was parked for duration of storm). We'll be going to Port Aransas this weekend and rain is possible so I may get to see how it holds up to rain while driving. I'm very interested in seeing how it performs in this condition also.

Keyless has been worth 2x or 3x the cost already for me. Most of my use involves dropping the tailgate anyway. You pull the cover's handle and the cover goes away. I've tried it once with the key for grins and it takes a considerable amount of force to turn the key because the key is releasing the latches, not actually unlocking the cover.

I added the electric tailgate lock because I didn't want to have to remember to physically lock the tailgate and then unlock it when I needed access.

I don't live or work in the city. My truck doesn't get locked until I go into town. A lot of the reason I got the cover was for security for when we're travelling, didn't like all the gear being in the unsecured bed. With the cover and the tailgate lock mod I don't have to think about the gear being secure. Now when I lock the doors the tailgate locks too.

BTW, the website says the cover is rated at 500lbs., the sticker on the cover's container says 300lbs. and it advises you not to stand on cover. Just kind of odd since TCUSA clearly shows someone standing on it on their website...

    Update

After approximately 400+ miles over the weekend I have only positive things to say.

180+ miles to Port Aransas from the house in light rain to drizzle to whole way doing 65. Much of the route was on two-lane road with two way traffic. When it came time to unpack there was ZERO water in the bed.

After 48 hours at the coast, it dried out late Saturday and the wind really picked up Sunday, there was NO SAND in the bed.

After another 180+ miles home the bed was still clean.

Only thing I noted was that the bed got pretty warm, but I'm guessing any bed with a tonneau does.

On a side note, the Blue Angels were flying over Corpus Christi when we were headed home.... AWESOME!

Thanks for the real world feedback. Like I said, it's probably the best out there.
