Tonneau Covers?

One of the next items I get for my 07 F-150 Supercrew with the 5.5 Bed is a tonneau cover. I don't want a hard fiber glass one I am looking for a vynol one. Who has one and what brand is it any pro/cons on any brand style would help save me from buying one I wouldn't like. Thanks

ken

I had the ExTang Full Tilt on my 02 F150. It was vinal that snapped to an aluminum frame and lifted like one of the Fiberglass ones. It comes complete with gas shocks. I absolutly love this cover. There is no permanant installation and it is easy to remove should you replace your truck and want to keep your lid. As far as taking the cover on and off, it is a piece of cake and you only need 1 person to do it, (2 people makes it a little easier) the aluminum frame is real light weight so it is not heavy when you need to take it off the truck it is just large and bulky. When I bought this back in 02 it was about $300.00 and I think they are still around that price. In the 6 years I had this lid the gas shocks are still strong and the vinal has held up very well. The only things I have found I had to do is like every six months just tighten the 2 bolts on the clamp that holds the lid shut also you need to use 2 hands to close the lid because it is just a ribbed frame with vinal and not ridgid like the plastic covers. The nicest part of this cover is because it lifts I have never had to undo the snaps.

I am glad you started this post, because I was just about to. As much as I loved the ExTand Full Tilt I am thinkin about trying another one of their products. I just bought an 08 F150 and need a Tonneau cover because my 02 has a 8 foot bed and my 08 has a 6.5ft bed. I have been looking at the Extang Trifecta Tri Fold Cover for my new truck and wanted to see if anyone has this cover and what they think about it.

I looked at all the extang covers and went with the revolution. Easy install and no snaps. Just open the tailgate and pull the release and roll it up. There is a little water leakage in a car wash but not much. It all depends on your needs. With the short bed on my screw I needed the cover out of the way when I haul. Bought mine from truckaddons.com for 280.00 to my door. They advertise they will beat any price so look around for the cheapest you can get it, give them the web address and save some more.

I went with the BakFlip G2. Just finished the install on Sunday. It POURED on Monday and there was some minor leakage, but I also noticed not all the rubber seals had set in at the time, and I also had yet to run the drain tubes (so it was draining right into the bed). I'll make a post after a couple of weeks on how it holds up.

Main reason I went with this cover is I work in Pro-Audio (PA, DJ, even concert level stuff) and I need something to haul gear in for smaller shows (when the 20' trailer or box trucks are overkill). I also wanted something that was easily removable and didn't take away from the great look of the truck. It had to be as inconspicuous as possible, and I love it so far.

If you have a bedliner though it makes the installation one giant PITA. I had to cut it on the sides so the rails would mount all the way up, then had to make some cuts in the tailgate cover so the tailgate would close. Dremel is my friend!

Here's a couple crappy garage pics I took of it after the install:

I don't like those covers that are on struts, they make a truck look like a car with an oversize trunk! Ieverytime I see one. And don't even get me started on snaps, what a PITA. I've got an Access cover, rolls up with velcro in seconds, lifetime warranty, you can't beat it

I love my access cover. rolls up in 30 sec and down in 45 sec. the only issue i had was at hwy speeds the cover slapped the bars when you have it tight, but that was fixed with some pipe foam for hot water heater pipes

I have had Lund snapless covers on my last two supercrews and love them. they dont leak. I get the ones that hinge up so you can raise them with the tailgate down and put stuff in the truck. they are easy to take off too, just pull the two gas struts off in the back and two pins in the front. They are about $350 though.

Get the Undercover hard tonneau. It is the single best mod I made to my truck. I have had 2 of them on both my trucks, 04 super cab 6.5 and my 06 super crew 5.5 bed. It is nothing to take care of, no paint or wax to worry with, just hose off the bird poop and it looks like the day I bought it.

Lucky,
This is the one-and-only complaint I've had with my Access cover. Can you elaborate on the pipe foam...more specifically do you have any pictures? Was the foam easy to install? Just trying to plan my next weekend project

I really like my LoRider ( Raider Industries) cover. I'll find out if it leaks because Ike is bearing down on us and will be here Friday night.

I have the truxedo low pro and like it allot. It is self adjusting and was pretty reasonably priced. Had it for a year and still works great and water tight. Locking too.
