Does a bedrug need to be covered?

I just got an 04 supercrew and it has the bedrug. Does this rug need to be covered with tonneau cover or can will it hold up to sun and rain? does it mildew?

I've had my rug in since last year and was concerned about the same thing but after a year of rain, snow, ice and sun it has held up great.
No mildew and I has the gate section off today and it looks just like when I got it from the dealer.
The only thing is the blue Ford emblem has faded.

Treat it as you would any other bedliner.

The only problem that I have ever had from my Bedrug is when it got really wet and I had a big load of rocks and gravel in the back, when I tried to raise the tailgate back after shoveling the rocks, etc. the extra carpet where the tailgate lowers and raises had stuck and I couldn't shut my tailgate. Other than that one occasion, I love the rug.

as above mentioned...you don't "need" to cover it...but...if you do...ARE makes, in my opinion, the best fiberglass cover on the market...and the underside of the lid matches the bedrug perfectly....

Just be sure to go with the LSX series on a Ford application, it makes all the difference for the better fit and finish on the truck and I it is only $100 more at least that is what I sell them for.

Where did y'all get the bedrugs from? I'm thinking about getting one for my 8' 2003 if they make it for that truck.
