Question Line-X Questions...

I'm new to the board since we just purchased our truck this past weekend...

I've read several posts on the Line-X bedliners, and I am a bit confused after I talked to the guy at one of the local Line-X dealers here.

I was hoping for a Color Matched Line-X Xtra liner...

The guy on the phone told me that they only do black because the color match typically doesn't last??? Does that seem right!?

Also, I was wanting the Xtra and apparently they don't do it, but it is a $300 option??? I thought I was reading prices around $150 on other posts...But I could be wrong?

He said he'll do "over the rails" as well, and the total cost is $437. From reading other posts it sounds like a reasonable price...But I'm still baffled by the fact that they only do black. He was telling me that he just came back from the Line-X conference and that Line-X was apparently telling their vendors to only put a one year guarantee on it!?

What do you all think? Is this guy crazy, should I call another dealer around here?

Thanks for your thoughts!

Hopefully, TruckGasm will see this and chime in. He is a Line-X dealer in Fort Worth, Tx and a straight shooter.

I just had the standard Line-X spayed a little over a week ago at Line-X of Clarksville, TN. They did a terrific job and while I was there we talked about the Xtra. He showed me a sample of the Xtra and talked about how it did faded over time. The example he used was a red liner that looked more pink over time. I do not believe that sample had the UV protection I have had people here talk about. That might help, but the black sure looks sharp. Hope you find the answer you are looking for.

Good luck,

Two Linex dealers near me had similar comments when I went to them for a quote on the Xtra and both recommended against color matching for my application. Another dealer near me highly recommended Xtra and said it will last forever and never fade. One of these dealers that recommended against Xtra sprayed Xtra as an option and one didn't use it at all. The Linex dealer who did spray Xtra and recommended against color matching for 'my' application has been a Linex dealer for several years. He also worked at Linex HQ for a number of years as one of their senior trainers before starting his own Linex dealership. He said he'll color match my beds with Xtra if I insist, but gave me fair warning and recommended against it for my application. I'll probably use him if I decide to go the Linex route once my new trucks come in, but I'll probably just follow his recommendation with a slightly thicker coating of black. I'm still considering the Dual Liner and a Dura Liner drop in, but I've always wanted to try a spray in liner and I know that Linex has a very good reputation. Our of all the liners I've seen, I like the looks of Linex the best.

I just had my Line-X with color matched Xtra put in last week and the comments you got were totally opposite of what my dealer told me.. as far as color match not lasting, yes my dealer said the same thing if you only get the standard Line-X with color added to it, that it will probably fade some. However the Xtra with color match is guranteed NOT to fade, has some sort of UV protectant in the mix. And that "one year" warranty sounds like BS to me, Line-X is known for their lifetime warranty.
Now, my dealer did tell me that the Xtra with color match is a relatively new product and that not every dealer has it yet. The black regular liner for $437 sounds reasonable, but $300 for the xtra color match is double what I paid.
I couldn't be happier with the job they did.. that stuff is TOUGH.. I'd say ask around to another dealer or two if you can, pretty sure you'll find more cooperation and better prices.

Thanks so far guys

I'm still wondering if I should go with regular ole' Line-X...

I just don't want to be kicking myself later on asking why I didn't try to find a dealer that did Xtra....

Is there some way to find out which dealers offer the Xtra other than calling around to all of them? We have quite a few dealers out here, so I'm kind of wondering if I should just start calling them or what.

I am wondering if that one guy I talked to yesterday just didn't want me to go elsewhere, so he told me the Xtra w/ Color match was $300+ extra and when he said one year warranty...I believe he was referring to color matching with the regular Line-X...Not the Xtra, so I guess that would make a difference?

I'm still on the fence about what I should go with...Regular, or Xtra...Black, or Color Match...

OK...boy, lot's of crazy info floating around. So, allow me to add to the confusion

LINE-X Xtra is a product that was developed by Dupont and LINE-X. It is significantly more durable than other topcoats that are typically used on spray-on bedliners. Xtra in black has been out for a little over a year. Xtra for colors has been out for about 3 or 4 months. When LINE-X dealers apply a color match, they use color pigmented LINE-X and then top coat it with Xtra. If Xtra is applied onto a warm freshly sprayed bediner, it actually migrates into the bedliner. It migrates as if you dropped water on a sponge, there's a higher concentration towards the surface. LINE-X without Xtra will fade. LINE-X with Xtra will fade as fast as your truck's paint, which is not very fast and you'll probably never notice it with the naked eye.

LINE-X offers a limited lifetime warranty, valid nationwide and can be viewed at www.goline-x.com I won't repeat the warranty info here, just go read it. However, the current warranty does NOT include a warranty against fading. Why? Because Xtra will fade, but again, you'll probably never be able to see it.

LINE-X dealers must first become certified before they can sell Xtra. "Certified" means a one day training class typically conducted by Dupont. If you want to discuss Xtra, find a dealer that sells it and has been trained. Dealers that are not trained are not capable of answering your questions regarding Xtra. Why don't ALL the LINE-X dealers go get trained ASAP? Well, for several possible reasons: Some dealers are in very rural areas and there is very little or no demand for colors. Xtra contains solvents and some states (like California) have VERY strict rules and restrictions regarding spraying products with solvents. The older dealers were never trained on how to apply pigmented LINE-X, so they shy away from colors. Some dealers do not have the drive to be cutting edge.

As far as pricing, LINE-X dealers are free to set their own prices.

BTW, I also attended the LINE-X convention in Nashville.

I called around, and prices seem to be fairly consistent.

However, I'm concerned with this one place.

Most of the dealers around here I have found don't have Xtra either due to county regulations, or it's just "too new" as one guy told me :-P
We're in Seattle, so I imagine the county regulates that you have to do this in some sort of booth, and have some sort of elaborate setup :-P

Nonetheless...I found a place just south of us, and I asked the woman if they did Xtra. She said "The topcoat?" and I said "Well, it's the Dupont Kevlar..." when she interrupted me and said "Yeah, the dupont kevlar."

So assuming they spray Xtra I went ahead and asked her for a price.
Quoted me $550 for everything including Over the Rails
$75 discount coupon...So I'd get $75 off
Then she said $225 for the "topcoat," and then I asked about warranty.
She said that they do the limited lifetime warranty on everything as long as you get the "topcoat" sprayed at the same time as the liner.

I think the fact that she calls it a "topcoat" really bothers me - ha ha ha...I feel like Her & I are talking about two different things...

I don't want a regular bed liner, with a color matched "top coat"...I want a color matched Xtra Line-X bedliner...

Would this worry anyone else?

If you wish, give me their name/telephone number and I'll call them and inquire for you.

Ooh! That would be MUCH appreciated!

I just looked it up on the line-x site, and apparently their name is
Line-X Plus

#'s are: 253-735-1220/888-546-3988

If they do in fact have Xtra....My next debate is going to be....

Do I pay $437 for regular Xtra in Black w/ Over the Rails...

Or do I spring for the color-matched Xtra w/ Over the Rails for $700....

Ha ha ha...You'd think I was trying to name my first born or something the way I'm hemming and hawing over this bedliner.

Alrighty, just got off the phone. Good news and not so good news:

Not so good: They DO NOT offer color matches.
Good news: They DO offer black Xtra. And, it is "Xtra", not Ultra Shield or any type of product, which is good because Xtra is the best.

Thanks sooooo much for calling and making sure!

Maybe that was why I wasn't getting a good vibe from them...they don't do the color match afterall...

There was only one other dealer (2 out of 6) that I talked to that even offers the Xtra. They're charging the $300 extra for Color Matched Xtra, which I suppose is reasonable around here considering the other dealer was black Xtra for $225.

I love Seattle's restrictions...I have to go way outside of my way to even find a Line-X dealer that offers/can offer Xtra :-P

And now that the one only has black...Looks like I'd have to go with the other dealer and stick with the $850 price tag.

Hmm....Going to have to think about this one.

$437 for Black Regular Line-X....

$850 for Color Matched Line-X Xtra...
