tailgate storage idea

Not sure if I should have posted this here or in "other aftermarket" but I figured I'd check here as well. Has anyone seen this product in person, or have any opinions on it?

It's a "toolbox" sort of product that mounts directly to your tailgate. I think this might be helpful to me as I have a canopy/camper shell/topper which makes it difficult to crawl around in the bed. With this option I could have some "essentials" right next to the tailgate that would be easy to access.

However, from the pic, I can't tell how deep it is, so I emailed the company to get some dimensions, but wanted to check to see if any of you had any experience with this product.

Just got a reply from the company with the dimensions:

----------------------
The GateMate has three individual locks on each lid. They are cam locks and
can be operated by a single key. We provide one original and one spare key.

The product can be installed 2 ways: 1) With 3M adhesive for trucks with no
bedliner or 2) with screws for trucks with bedliners. I am attaching a
simple install instruction sheet for your review.

The compartments are about 2 inches deep plus the height of the lid and are
about 14x14 in size.

It's ok till you load something across the tailgate.I saw them be in the mags and liked having the storage there. But it may get your way at times.I like the boxs on the side close to the tailgateThat's my 2 cents.

I understand what you mean, but I also have the bed extender which means I can't get the "pork chop" (I think that's what their called) boxes that mount behind the wheel well and butt up against the tailgate. This is about the best possible solution I've seen so far. My main concern now is how strong these are. If I need to load my quad into my truck will these boxes take the weight of a quad rolling across them? I'm compiling a list of questions like this to send back to their customer service to see what I can find out. If any of you can think of similar concerns I'd love to know them!

They look kind of neat for storing things, but I can't imagine you could roll much of consequence (sled or 4-wheeler) over the top of them without crushing the heck out of them.
