Soft tonneau cover - broken elbow needs help!

1999 XL SCab 4.2 Shortbed

My wife bought me a Ford / Harley soft tonneau for my truck about 2 years ago. The other night we're loading a desk into it, and it's a little too tall to fit under the cover. We unsnap the cover and begin to roll it back, then we each start to unscrew the set screw that holds the rail on the tailgate. She gets hers out first, then lifts it straight up in the air...

Needless to say, I did not have my end out of the side rail, and a piercing "CRACK" was heard as the corner elbow broke off. I've tried to super glue it, but it will not hold, and I've called several dealers who are mostly clueless. They don't want to be bothered, and either 1) say I will have to buy a new rail set / complete cover or 2) push me off to call Ford directly. So I call Ford directly, and they push me back to another dealer that I have not called yet, one that is smaller and less capable than the 3 I've already called. Ugh!

Anybody have an idea where to find a replacement corner bracket / elbow? Or perhaps a better idea to try to fix my broken one?

Thanks for any assistance.

Rod

I assume it is not a FORD piece, then call the manufacturer of the tonneau, the frema has a lifetime warranty and I have found them to be very generous(sp?) whenever that has happened in the past.

Have not had any luck in the junkyard yet, but still looking...

It is a Ford piece, and they seem clueless when I tell them what I am looking for. I cannot be the only guy in the world that has had one of these elbow joints break - I cannot believe how hard this is to find a simple plastic part!

What length is your bed? I have an 01 w/ a 6.5 ft and just took the cover off to fit the tool box. If it is the ford Factory top (mine is blackish grayish) and you need one...its used but it would work I guess if you are in need of one...just shoot me an e-mail. I would be happy to get it out of my garage if you feel like buyin' it.

These 2 trucks have the same bed. F-150's are the same from 97-03. It should be the same cover and have the same brackets and rails.

Ford tonneau covers are not made by Ford. But they do not have any other manufacturers markings on them. There have been a number of different manufacturers who have made the covers for them over the years.

I have had a number of customers have this issue, they go to the dealer and the dealer cannot sell parts for the covers, just the whole cover. If you can post a pic of the corner and the cover I may be able to tell you who made it and how you can get another one. Other than that, you may want to check with a local accessory shop as they may be able to identify it, maybe not though.

If all else fails, you will have to find one in the junkyard or buy a new cover. This is one of the many reasons I would not recommend buying accessories from the dealer, replacement parts are impossible to get.
