Line-x, what in the world!!

I e-mailed to only two Line-X stores within 100 miles of me. Here's their responses:

1)

Hi, Matt!

Thanks for your inquiry into Line-X. Line-X is a very tough, durable
product that forms a permanent bond with your truck bed and seals out
rust and corrosion. It's consistent textured surface looks great. In
fact, it is rated #1 in customer satisfaction. As far as a quote, I
will address each of your options below:

1. If we spray the bed with a black bedliner, it will be $ 469.00 plus
tax. It takes about 2 hours to apply and is ready for light-duty use
when you leave with it and heavy-duty use in 24 hours.

We always attempt to remove the bed bolts and bed hardware before
spraying a truck. However, on a few occasions even with a new truck, we
are unable to remove the bed bolts, because they have siezed into
place. If that is the case, with your truck, we will let you know so
you can make the decision to proceed and spray over them or not
to spray the bedliner. The decision is always yours. Because your
truck is a 2007, it shouldn't be a problem. However, we never know
for sure until we try to take them out.

2. We can spray a color match for you under the previous color system
with Line-X. We apply a bedliner, and then topcoat with a color-matched
automotive paint. It is an additional $ 250.00.

3. We do not offer the Line-X Xtra in our store. I do not know if any
of the other Line-X stores are offering it in colors either. Last I had
heard, it was only available in black.

I hope that answers your questions, if I can answer any others for you,
please let me know.

2)

Good morning Matt.

Congratulations on your new King Ranch! Below you will find the costs for each of your options.
1) Black-$479
2)Color match- $629
3)Color match w. Xtra-$629

It takes about 1 1/2 to 2 hours to prep and spray a truck in black. If you choose a color match, we need the truck over night. We have sprayed several trucks with Xtra ,however, we have not sprayed any with the colored Xtra. We always remove all bed bolts and tie downs before spraying unless we cannot get them out. That is usually on a Ford that is several years old. Our hours are: Monday-Friday, 8:00 to 4:30 and Saturday by appointment only. If you have any more questions, please contact us via e-mail or phone

Thank you for your inquiry into Line-X.

Automotive paint over the Line-X? And why does the other one need the truck over night and why doesn't it cost any more for Xtra? Now I'm really baffled....

All the dealers price their stuff on their own, so you could have a hundred dollars difference in 3 or 4 local dealerships, so keep looking and you could get a price better than both of those.

I'm still baffled by the fact that the one paints standard automotive paint over the linex to accomplish their color matching...

Here's how it works:

The dealer will add pigment to neutral resin and get close to the truck's actual color. After applying the bedliner, it will be topcoated with single stage urethane based automotive paint (Dupont Nason) to get to the EXACT color via the factory paint code.

Xtra became available for color matching a few weeks ago.

LINE-X dealers must first become certified (one day training class) before they can sell Xtra.

While Nason works well and has been used for years, Xtra is significantly more durable and should be your first choice.

Some brands use color injection systems. However, the results are not quite as good for several reasons.

I see, that makes a little more sense now. But it just seems ***-backwards to be putting paint ontop of Line-X which Line-X is designed to protect in the first place....

It's the chicken or the egg.
If you are worried about it getting scratched, you could always get another coat of Line-X on top.

But apparently the color would be black again if I got it Line-Xed on top of the color matched paint.

Not everyone looks for humor first in your posts Raoul.
