Line-x over the rails? Fender Flares? - 2004 F150

I'm looking to get a spray-in bedliner for my '04 this winter. I'm either going with Line-X or a local brand in Austin that is very similar. The quality of these two have me convinced. My question is whether or not anyone here has had their spray-in bedliner done over the bed rails? I've been told by one of the dealers that they couldn't do it because of how the rails were attached, something having to do with the amount of pins holding it on, but this just sounds lazy to me. Is it possible? Did it cost you extra? If so lets see some pics. I'm also looking at having my FX4 fender flares, and rear bumper pad done as well, if anyone has any experience there lets hear it.

Don't you already have plastic over the bed rails. That should be ample protection. Plus, if it gets beat up, it is easy to replace.

What's the other brand?

If you use your truck like a truck, get it over the rails. If you don't use your truck like a truck, you really don't need over the rails. If you decide to get under the rails only now, you can still get the rails sprayed later. It will cost a little more though.

I haven't heard the hole count on the new body style.
On the '97-'03 bed and tailgate there are 78 holes (on the shortbed)

I think this is what they are talking about.
Pop off your pastic caps and you are dealing with 78 holes of varying sizes, some as big as a quarter.

Why did Ford do this when only about a dozen holes are used to secure the plastic?
This is a question for the Ages.

Go with the Line-X you wont be dissapointed. The bed caps you basically destroy the clips when you take them off, so if they did pop them off to spray underneath..chances are you are looking at having to put new caps on there.....like they say why do you want to go under there? thats kinda the whole point of the caps...I dunno anyways..

Oops, yea, if you have the plastic caps, forget about the rails being sprayed unless you have the holes welded shut. Even then, the rails shape are rather ugly.

Well I wasn't necessarily talking about under the plastic, more like over the plastic on the rails, I don't need it under. I just think that thte plastic coating on the bed rails is too soft, I've got a bunch of gashes in mine already.

Truckgasm: the local brand is from a hitch place in Austin, I can't remember the name though. He mentioned that it's consistency was most similar to line-x. That's the only reason I would consider, and it cost less too. But hey, I'm willing to fork over the extra cash to get the real deal. I'll be spending the holidays into the third week of January in DFW, so let's try to work something out. Shoot me an email with some price quotes. It's an '04 Regular cab F150, so I guess that makes it a 6.5 ft bed. I'd be looking to get the bed + plastic rails done, and have also considered doing the flares and rear bumper (the pad in black, bumper in color matched silver) if the price is right. Thanks for your help.

When I had my Line-X done, they asked if I wanted it under the rails or over. I think it was an additional $50. for over. Also, some people get worried about it, but I had them remove the bed bolts before they shot it and had them shoot the tailgate panel separate from the truck. To me, not covering the bolts made a cleaner looking job and not having the tailgate shot as one made it easy to work on the tailgate.

There was a club on 6th St. called the 606 club. I don't know if it's still there. I was there one day during .25 oyster happy hour. I bit into an oyster and wha-lah, a small pearl. I took another bite and wha-lah number 2, a second pearl.

Austin is the place!!! Tex, I would look into superliner. www.bedliner.com I just had mine sprayed and I LOVE it. The warranty is great, guaranteed not to peel or fade. My dad has a lineX and it looks good, but after 3 years it has faded. They can paint match the truck or just spray it black. They can even add graphics such as a giant Bevo (or a TAMU) using the same material. The dealer paid for mine, so I did not get a chance to add the Bevo! If I would have paid for it, they would have been a little cheaper than Rhino and Linex too. BTW, 97 TXEX
