Angry Line-X question about thickness after application

I had my bedliner sprayed several months ago...to the naked eye, there was no real way to tell how thick it was applied...i had to trust the dealer. Well the first time i ever had to run a shovel over the liner to remove some topsoil, the liner ripped in several places...

I was shocked since I have heard on this forum that it is supposedly the toughtest, strongest liner and that mine had ripped in spots after one light duty job.

Upon inspection, i saw that the liner was not even 1/16" thick! Some of the dealers on this forum said that up to 1/4" on floor and 1/8" thick on walls..I know key word is "up to" but arent there specific corproate guidelines as to how thick this stuff is applied?

Obviuosly I am going to take it back to the dealer, but i wanted to arm myself with some knowledge form the dealers as to how thick they spray and what the minimum applied thickenss is set by corporate.

ANy info or help would be greatly appreciated.

BTW, I am in Houston, and the dealer is The Truck Store on Richmond

Well, as you said, it is up to 1/8" on the sides and 1/4" for the bed. That's all the knowledge you need. Tell them you are unsatisfied with the thickness and have them re-do it.

TruckGasm may step in here and know if there is a corporate minimum or not. But, unfortunately for you, Line-X dealers are just that - dealers. They do what they want. Luckily there is a lifetime warranty and you will win every time.

Good luck and let us know what happens.

I'm a LINE-X dealer.

Unfortunately, there are good and bad dealers, no matter what bedliner brand you use.

You have nationwide lifetime warranty backed by LINE-X corporate, so it will be fixed.

You have two possible problems: 1. Was the bed not prepared correctly before spraying and 2. The liner is too thin.

The liner should have been roughed up with a sander in order to provide a non-smooth surface area. Look and see if you can see sanding marks. You should see a lot of them. After sanding, the bed should have been cleaned (we use methanol). The liner should be sprayed up to 1/8" on the sides and up to 1/4" on the bed. They say "up to" because it's impossible to have an exact uniform thickness throughout the bed.

One thing is for sure, if the job were done correctly, you would not be experiencing the problems you are having. Take it back to the dealer first, that's what corporate would want you to do. If you can't get things right with the dealer, call corporate at 800-831-3232 and discuss the matter. Now, in order to get what you want (get the bed fixed right), I suggest you approach the dealer and corporate with a courteous and reasonable attitude, that will only facilitate the process.

Let me know if you have any questions.

I don't think my Line-X is a 1/4 inch thick.
That said, I have been going at it for six years with a shovel without issue.

I have cuts in mine when an upright piano lost a wheeled leg and five of us drug it off the truck anyway, but....

....one man with a shovel?
Shouldn't be ripping a spray-in.

Yea, I agree. Thickness should be at least 1/8" and less than 1/4".
