Undercover problems/gripes
OK. Either no one who owns one has read the thread or everyone who has one is 100% satisfied. I'm thinking of getting one. No one has had any problems with leaks, fit, finish, rattles, anything?
I think it is great....I'd buy it again in a heartbeat but....
2 things.....
1. It really isn't a one man job to get the cover off. It is light but too wide to manage alone. Not a complaint just an observation.
2. The big issue:
The cover was rubbing when being opened up by the cab on the two outside corners and I didn't really notice until it has scratched the paint. I called them and they mentioned that some of the units weren't sanded enough and to sand the insides down. I did so and it appears to have fixed the issue. They told me the sanding caused any problems they would replace the cover no charge. They were great about it.
Just double check the cornes when the top is open to make sure you won't suffer the same problem.

I think I am going the Undercover route unless someone talks me out of it before my tax return comes. Rolling up my soft cover is either a 2 man job or a 1 man major PITA, and I don't think the 2 lock think will be too much of an inconvenience. Thanks for the tip on the corners - I'll watch for that.

I've never had a problem with the two locks....when I'm just running in a store and I know I'm coming out with a bunch of junk I just unlock one before I go in. 1 lock keeps it tight.
I did one other mod. The rings near the cab that hold the cover on are nothing more than key rings. They work fine to hold it own but I hated messing with it. I went out and bought two small (travel size) master locks that are black coated. I drilled the holes out a little and put the locks on. I didn't do it for the security but for the ease and convience of getting the cover off...espccially at night....
Works great.

Oh yea...and it makes cleaning the cab roof alot easier...just walk onto the cover and scrub away....

What kind of a soft cover do you have?
Mines a piece of cake, rolls up in about 10 secs. by myself and unrolls in about the same time.

It's an Extang, I believe Sabre (it's the snapless model). The molded ridge (for lack of a better term) that attaches to the rails is pretty stiff. So you can't just roll it from the center, or one side. If I do it by myself I have to go side to side trying to tighten the roll from the inside until I can get it rolled up tight enough to strap. I bet I could remove the Undercover solo easier.
I've had my undercover on my 99' F150 Extended Cab Sport Flareside for one year now. All I can say is the product is all they claim it to be. Installation was a very easy. Product is very well built and the quick to remove. It comes in black, which was just fine by me since my truck has a monochromatic theme with black accents anyways. 8)
Very durable and the fit was excellent. Just keep in mind that the cover is "weather proof" not "weather tight"
Even with a tailgate seal, I still get a fair amount of dust in my box. Especially when driving down country roads. There is no perfect way to seal the tailgate - no matter what kind of tailgate seal you get. They help, but aren't sealed tight by any means.
The only complaint I have is that it will take more than one person to put it on and take it off - unless you are willing to beat up your truck in the process.
The other thing is, you don't have the ability carry tall things and yet maintain part of your box being covered like the roll-up covers offer. It's not a big deal, but may be bothersome if the situation arisesw.
Other than that, I think it is a far superior product compared to the fiberglass or rollup covers. More durable and more secure (especially with the Ford locking tailgate).
I'd buy another one for the next truck I get a few years down the road...

One more
for the Undercover. I also have the Bedrug, so I get a little bit of a seal at the tailgate. No dirt or water has ever made its way into the bed of my truck.
Drawbacks:
1) Same as above, two person removal, but very simple.
2) Can't (not supposed to) drive with the cover in the up position, so you can carry a large item.
3) Even though new ones come with a triple LED light, they should offer an optional "good" light setup.

98% Satisfied customer vote for Undercover here also.....
the fact of it rubbing a little on the paint, needing to be sanded out and it does take two people to get the undercover off, unless you don't care about the paint job on your truck and undercover.... then one man would be no problem....
