Spary-On vs. Drop-In
I have a rubber mat in my truck. I just went outside, trying to find a name on it. All I could find said "97 Ford Flareside 6871" This mat is 1/4+ thick, has ribs on the top and little knobby points on the bottom. I keep a wooden box back there with emergency tools and fire extengisher. Plus a lot of times I'll have a cooler back there. Nothing ever slides. It's also thick enough that if I'm crawling around back there, my knees dont hurt. I've had it since the second day of possesion of truck. Also, I've hauled a lot of wood products while building my house. No cuts and no damage to the bed of truck. I wish I could have found a name on it. I got it from a truck accessory place in Detroit. If you're putting down a mat like this, and you have a flareside, make sure it's made for the flare!!! Not only is there a top and a bottom, but there's a front and a back!!

ok, 2 cents worth:
I have the rhino, my previous truck had nothing, (97 lariat) and my truck before that had a drop-in. conclusion? spray on.
first, with nothing in, you slide too much and if it is wet, you need skates!
the drop-in was ok, but wet, it was still very slippery, and if any sand gets in-between the bed and the liner, it's like sandpaper, you should get the drop in mat that goes under the bed liner if you go that way. It might be drop in, but ask ANYONE who has one, when was the last time they removed it?
Spray on, it's durable, if it chips, I can patch with no problems, if I drive a nail thru it it won't let stuff get in between the bed and the liner (I had this problem with the drop in, nailed 2 pieces of wood together and it accidently went thru).
I live in michigan, which means winter, which means I add weight in the back every winter, if a bag of sand or salt rips, and you have any holes, your toast, with the rhino, the bag can explode and no problem about rust later on.
The spray on also deadens the sound, so much so that when I drive I don't hear the back of the truck, it's like it's not there and also gives the feel like it is much stronger back there..no rattling sounds. I have big AT tires and I don't hear them howl on the highway.
My Rhino cost me 270$ which was less then the ford dropin bedliner.
2 cents worth!

Hey Cloaker, how did you get your Rhino liner so cheap?
You have a relative that franchises Rhino?
I've never heard of any spray on (name brand) for that price.
How about all you people with sprayed beds, did any of you get that kinda deal??
Be truthful........OK

Just got a Line-X quote of $400 for my style side shortie. Prices for these have come down considerable in the last year and a half. Competition I guess. Myself. Not going to do it. Have a Leer TSC 600 HS cap on it and a rubber mat. No one would be able to see the pray on! Use a small trailer to haul rough stuff anyway. Used samll trailers are more versatile and can be had for arround that $400 plus you can get one with the drive on tail gate and put your mower etc. on easier.
My Line-X was $340 normally $360 but, someone gave me a $20 off card. After I got sprayed the Line-X guy gave me a dozen cards for $20 off. He said write your name on the back every card I get I send you $20. I checked and the guy who gave me the card did get $20 in the mail.
I figure the markup on this stuff is tremendous. A warm bucket of slop run through a high pressure sprayer, some duck tape and a highly skilled technician. If the job was done at cost the price would be $65 tops.

Yup. Got a quote on doing the bumpers of my Expediton. The materials are cheap, but the $85/hr "shop charge" is a killer.

Get a rubber drop in mat that is specific for the truck. I got mine for about $50. It's easy to remove and put back in and is cut perfect to the shape of the bed. If you don't like it, sell it and do the spray liner. You'll be out little cash for trying.

BTR: One bad thing about the rubber mat is that mine began floating around in there at about 115 MPH. Had to back off to get it to settle down.

Back in March 99, I made the decision to have the truck sprayed with the Line-X, which cost me $321.95. The Line-X has paid for itself in one way or another. I have hauled everything from ATV's to wood, and have only minimal sliding when things aren't straped down by a bungie cord. Just my .02.

Just a thought....
Spray in liners don't prevent dents in the bed as well as drop in liners. If things start sliding around, this can really bang up the inside of the bed. It's not as bad today as it was in the days of single wall beds, but it still irritates me.
I opted for the BedRug because my loads don't slide around hardly at all and I can put my sleeping bag on it and not feel like the Princess and the pea the next morning. It's actually very comfortable. The whole thing is velcroed in place and can be removed in about 3 minutes if necessary (and reinstalled just as quickly).
I can also run at 140 mph and it stays put (w/o the tonneau cover). It's made of the same type of carpet as is used in your better bass boats, it's easy to clean, and looks great! It costs about the same as a good drop in, but IMHO, it's worth every dime.
P.S. No, I don't own stock in or work for the BedRug Co. I just really like the product.
