It's a given that they won't let you in the spray booth during spraying, but they most assuredly will be happy to invite you in to look at their prep and finished work. I've been to four or five Line-X dealer locations around Central Florida, and have been invited by the staffs at all of them to do a walkthrough. If a dealer is proud of their work and wants your business, they'll be more than happy to show you how they handle each step of the application process. On the other hand, if the dealer sites "insurance reasons", or any other reason for excluding a customer from their work, find another dealer.-Mike-

The only reason they spray Line-X at a thickness of 1/8th of an inch is the superior strength and wearablility of the material. Why spray a 1/4 inch when an 1/8th is more than enough.
But all spray on bedliners that are sprayed in colors will eventually fade. It is really just a novelty item. I wouldn't spray a color liner for less than $150 extra because the product takes a ton more maintenance after it is applied.

and i am thinking that black will look good too, i know it will. but does rhino, i know you are line-x Scott, but do they do a variable texture? i've been looking at trucks on my way to work and i like the line-x alot, but i am not interested in the toughness! that is why i think that i may go rhino for the softness. but any help as to why and how much of a pain in the rear it is to up keep a color?thanks to anyone really who can help me out?

Sorry I couldn't have sent you to the guy that did my liner. You would have been very happy with the end product.

Armacoatings will do it soft or hard as you like in any texture so I'd check them out.

Thanks, Mike. My daughter is in school there in Orlando at UCF, so we visit Orlando every few months...could have gotten the truck done on one trip.<g>
Looks like I'll have to research the two down here a bit, then decide where to have it done... A visit to each sounds like a great idea.

Line-X can vary the final texture. You can have from rather smooth to highly textured, sort of like a orange peel. I like the highly textured look. I think it's the best looking than any other liner by far.

i haven't read all the posts, just the most recent ones and i wanted to toss in my $.02
i think it was about 8 years ago now we put a rhino into my wife's truck. they did a great job (it was a shop in indianapolis), and i would have considered a rhino from then on. this past summer we finally put a rhino into her ranger, and i was realy disappointed by the look of it. you can see drips all along the rails and there are little puddles where the drips ended up along the bed. my impression was rhino is now trying to "mass market" their liner. it seems that anyone working on trucks can spray their liner.
when i bought my king ranch i decided to go with the line-x. i don't know if it really is the process (hot vs. cold) or the installers, but i'm very happy with my liner. as johnny bench said in the commercials...no runs, no drips, no errors. all of the hardware was removed before spraying so you can remove it later if needed. aside from the texture, it looks really smooth. i say go with the line-x.
as for color, i'm not sure. back when we put the first rhino in my wife's truck, they said the color faded pretty badly, so don't go anywhere near the blue she had on her sonoma. the black rhino on her torreador red ranger hasn't seemed to fade at all over the last year. for my truck, i wasn't about to try color matching the charcoal blue on my king ranch so i just went with black. i think it looks great.
good luck with who ever you decide to go with!

Line-X
I just came from the Line-X dealer near my house. I don't have my new truck yet but I wanted to see their product. They have a truck bed in the showroom and I have to tell you it looked better than the Rhino Liner I saw in a truck on display in the mall. It may be much harder than the Rhino but the sample was still plyable and you can bend it between your fingersso I dont think it will crack if the sheet metal flexes. I also like the fact that its sprayed on hot and dries in a few minutes, that should keep it from sagging. They said I could wait while they did the work and it would take two to three hours. They remove all the hardware in the bed also. I would have to leave the truck for the Rhino so I think its Line-X for me when my truck comes in. Thes price Quoted was $425 less the online coupon. I havent tried to negotiate a lower price I'll wait till I'm ready to buy.

Wille the answer to your question is yes. You can spray it as smooth as a you want. Some people use it on the bottom of drift boats and aluminum boats for extra protection. Or you can make it as rough as a **** carpet.
I also have customers in my shop through the whole stage of the process if they wish to watch. I having nothing to hide and it helps me with repeat business because that customer is educated in the spraying process and can sell the liner to his friends.
That whole abrasive thing is a bunch of hog wash. That is the only thing they can come up with to try and sell their product over Line-X. How often do you carry antique furniture or something that valuable in your pick up bed? Not very often if at all. And if you did the thing should be tied down so it won't move no matter what. Think about it that is nosense. It makes me laugh some times what people will come up with.

I had a Rhino liner in my 2001 F 150, duability was OK, but it kept fading real bad in the Texas sun. I saw my neighbor's Line-X and liked it, and did some research in this forum and another. I had a Line-X put in my 2003 F150 today, got to watch the whole process including the spraying thru a window for that purpose. They even filled in some dents in my bed from hauling large rocks this past weekend. A real professional job, it looks great with a lifetime guarantee.
