In your thread about cleaning the MAF sensor to clean the wires in the sensor. Are you talking about the plug in wires or the mechanism actually inside the MAF.

 

The tiny wires inside the MAF. Don't touch them as it will destroy them. Just spray them with cleaner.

 

Great write up, thank you. I love this forum. My '97 F150 with the 4.2L 6 cylinder suddenly wouldn't start. I could smell gas and it seemed like it was flooding out. I removed the air cleaner to let in some air and it started. It idles and runs great except when taking off from idle. It stumbles badly and sometimes stalls. Once going it's OK until I stop again. The check engine light is on and throwing code P0102, which is the MAF code. Live data from the code reader shows the flow rate to be 0 lb/min no matter what the engine RPM is. Would cleaning the MAF in this case possible help or does the zero reading mean I'll need to replace the MAF sensor? Thanks!

 

I have a 2000 F150 4.6L V8 Auto. The truck runs ok but when I come to a hill and give it gas it kind of stutters. Plus, getting terrible mpg. The stuttering happens at revs between 1000 and 1500 rpm. Once it gets above about 1600 rpm it runs fine. I kind of floor it to get the gear change to rev the truck up to go up the hill. No codes on the dash. I've replaced the fuel filter. I replaced one COP last year and have a new set if needed. Plugs are the same original ones that came with the truck 10 years ago! (I know, not good)

My question is this: I've looked at my MAF sensor and I see only one tiny wire across the two poles. It looks like a tiny resistor. Shouldn't there by two of them? There are two pairs of poles and only the one tiny resistor looking sensor across the first pair of poles. Has the other broken off or gone? Not the best picture but the best my phone would take.

 

Did you reset your computer and the check engine light still came on?
