How-to Blackout / Tint your Tail Lights
#18
I know, I know, its an old thread. But I just finished mine and wanted to post some pictures!
Before
After
I plan on polishing them when I wax the truck, once all the damn pollen in the area settles!
BTW 3 coats with reflectors taped, 1 coat without. The 3rd brake light went a little darker than I hoped but no worries!

Alright lets see what I'm doing wrong here...I followed this article word for word and I am still not getting the results I hoped for. I can't seem to get my lights shine like most of your's I see on here...After I let the niteshade dry for 24 hrs I wet sanded with 1500, polished, and waxed my taillights. It definately looks better than before I sanded and polished them but its still got this dull/flat look...any advice would be great!

Thats just the way they turn out.....If you really want the shiny look. get them cleared at a body shop, that will really satisfy you. Clear in a can will not work!
And again, you'll have to search around for a place that will do them because it's illegal to spray over DOT head's and tail's because they are safety specific. Also, if you get them cleared, they will turn out a little darker, so depending on how many coats you put on, you may need to get a line of fire from recon or something. I know in Texas, 500 feet from the taillights, the bulb light should be visible....not sure about North Dakota.

Alright, I'll probably end up finding a body shop that will do that then.
And I did get a little trigger happy with the niteshade...probably the one thing I didn't exactly follow with this article. It just seemed like they were never dark enough and before I knew it they were very very dark. So even though I'm not a huge fan of those line of fire bars, I may end up getting one.
Thanks alot for your help though!

Use something like 600 or 800 wet sand, it'll come off. Just make sure you go evenly all over the light and take your time or you'll have dark and light spots.
