Thanks JMC, for the link. I happened to get the printout from my VIN from the local FORD truck dealer, and the parts guy showed me the trailer info download on the screen. I did that when we were in the looking process for the trailer, to see what we could tow safely.

With a 15 year old truck, I plan on going through most of the mechanical systems before we do some of the longer trips. I've already changed out the EGR system, since I was having a lot of problems with idle, and all the parts were original factory. The brakes need some work, as I plan on changing out the master cylinder, at the least, and see what happens from there. All fluid systems will be flushed, and changed to Royal Purple synthetic, where applicable.

As I said, I'm going to a trans shop and have them go through the tranny, and add the cooler, with a temp gauge. It's already got Monroe Magnum 60's all around and pulls the trailer fairly well. I have 4 brand new Dextero DHT2 10 ply tires on some new Discount Tires black aluminum wheels.

We'll probably do another local trip, as a shakedown, and then we go from Austin down to Galveston in the beginning of June. That should be about a 220 mile trip one-way, and that's the one I'm really prepping for.

Ok. I'm new here. I have gone thru this list. Very helpful.
I have an 07 4x2 with a 4.6.
TR code Q on the sticker. So according to the list I have a 4r75e. But that says its for 5.4l.

I'm looking at a used tranny from a 2004 4.6l 4x2 but it has an "A" code which according to the list is an NP435 from an 80-87?
I'm a bit confused?!!

Starting in 04, some of the codes changed. By 07, I do believe the 4.6 got the 4R75, that 04 you are looking at is probably a 4R70.

Please keep in mind this guide was written in 2005.

So will the 4r70 work for me?
What are the differences?
Sorry. I'm quite new to this still.

You will get a better response if you start a new thread in the Transmissions forum.

4r70w trans code u

Hello all!! Getting ready to replace my 04 expedition 4.6 rwd 4r70w with one from a 03 expedition 4.6 rwd 4r70w. Are there any alterations I will need to make for this to fit and function properly in my 04?

Also. I have an 06 4.6 park Ave 4r75w that I hear may work with a few alterations such as valve plate replacement and restricter spring removal. Is there anything issues I can expect to run into if I use the 4r75w?

Adrianspeeder
The transmission marked as the SROD for the 80 81 82 83 ?84 was the
Clark RUGG. 3 speed with Overdrive as the fourth position and the shifter was a top positioned box with redirected shift arms to exclude the outside shift positions which were pivot bolts for the shifter arms inside.
In my opinion that transmission is a piece of **** and is not worth the rebuilds I put in mine.
Three times.
And finding a case that was NOT shattered by exploding gears due to excessive input output shaft play after wearing.
Mine cracked from the input shaft to the magnet and drained all the 90 weight on the dirt....never got a good rebuild after that.
