DIY Bug Screen (alot of Pic's)

Hey guys so I decided to make a bug screen for my radiator today. Instead of buying one for 20 bucks, I made this from supplies in my basement. It turned out to be a great project as the pic's will show. Hope you guys enjoy. Oh yeah, quit buying stuff that you can make for a fraction of the cost. Not only is it easier on the pockets but it is way more satisfying. I will post pic's tmrw when I mount it.

Product list:

1. (1) Roll of Screen
2. (1) Roll of Adhesive backed vinyl
3. (4) Hammer on brass ring's
4. (4) U-clips

I hope you plan to mount it with like 1/2" gap from the radiator or it will be useless

looks good, and looks like nice craftsmanship :o

Thank you very much, and yes it will mount about 2-3" away from the radiator maybe even more.

I thought of something like that years ago for my Bronco II. I didn't do it but so many of the trucks front ends are so open...a bird or large item could really mess things up. Can't believe the factory doesn't provide something in that area.
Good job!

It's not really tape some people refer to it as vinyl tape but it is known as vinyl edging or adhesive backed vinyl, it's pretty thick and it can be stiched on also.

Thanks, will be making me one this weekend. The grasshoppers and bugs are out in force here in the TX Panhandle this year.
Good job and info by the way.

Just a question. Whyt not form it to fit the back side of the grill? I ask because I am thinking of doing that to block out the levers are stuff behind the grill.

The first mod I did to my truck when I bought it back in March 2006 is similar to this mod.The screen cost about $4 at Walmart.

NASSTY, how do you clean this when it is covered with bugs? I'm curious if a brush would bend the fins.

The reason I made it to sit between the grill and the radiator and not behind the grill was simple and that was for the reason of cleaning and removing. When the screen gets dirty ebough I will remove it and power wash it then replace it back in its location.

I just blow it off with the air hose and the bugs just fall right off.
