How To: Headrest Video Monitors
First Time Headrest Video D.I.Y.
Ok So here I go. Bit the bullet, I had to have them. Name brand monitors for $204 delivered!!!
Here's what is in each box. a Monitor, a Bucket, a Concave trim spacer, an extension cable, a remote and hook up wires.

Step 1 determine placement and mark-up your headrests. Pretty scarey!!!

Here they are marked up. Thanks Wifey!! I finally held them in perfect position while my wife marked them with a sharpy marker.

Well there is no going back now. Be sure to cut on the inside of the marking, too small is better than too large!!!

So here's a tip. Adjust your blade depth to the depth needed as you go around. It varies due to the concave nature of the headrest.

There isn't a good picture, but I x'ed the foam and tore out the padding. Not too deep, you can always go deeper, but its hard to put it back.

Believe it or not after getting up the courage, this is the hardest part. Tunnel down to each headrest pole and fish a zip tie through and back up. Also drill a hole to the pole for the wire to go through. Pre run the extension cable through the foam and come out close to the headrest pole.

You need to drill a hole next to the mounting hole in the bottom of the bucket on each side. The hole needs to be pretty big because after you tighten the zip tie you need to rotate it's head through the bigger hole you drilled.

One is done. It looks great. I'm pleased with my first attempt!

and it even works...!!! Nice picture! Directed Video HVM700 96$ each on eBay!!!

A little Guitar hero~~Rinse and Repeat!!!

That one works too. Whoopie... next post, installation... Hmmm, maybe not till Saturday.
First impressions: A little scarey, but really only a 4 out of 10 on difficulty. Total cost. $212.00 Total time 2.5 hours. Take your time, be careful... The foam part is really not as hard as you would think. I say, if you've got back seats, go for it!
Confession: Though I have never done this before and I have never worked as an installer, I have installed over a dozen systems in my vehicles over the past 25 years. Some of which were pretty large. I have acquired a few skills, but really, patience and caution are all you need. Don't ever get in a hurry when installing equipment...The system you save could be your own. Rushed jobs tend to suck.
Oh, by the way, I forgot to show the fronts.

Oh well. that's in Another Thread. (get the embroidery done first!!!)

I had to put them in the truck to drive it tomorrow. So, even though they are not wired up, I thought i'd take a Picture

Hey did I ever post up about my Overhead Panel Video Conversion???

Hey did I ever post up about my Overhead Panel Video Conversion???
There really isn't much to tell. Buy a headrest monitor that fits, velcro it to the sunglasses pocket drill a hole through the plastic at the back of the pocket and through the console. run the wires down through the pillar. use a zip tie to create some slack in the wiring yet keep it secure so it can open and close.

Check out my thread on how to make that overhead look a little bit better.
I have done it twice now since my original one (the one in the pics) got stolen last august.
custom overhead monitor
if you need any help just Pm me
Yeah, i reviewed yours when i was thinking of doing mine a year ago. It's nice, but the benefit vs labor seemed prohibitive. if anything I'll fiberglass it over within its own space just to blend it in. Thanks, though
a lot of people will cut an x instead of the entire rectangle.....
turned out great though, i love mine, well loved untill i got my ipod stolen and upgraded to a touch which doesnt work so well with music vids so i dont use it as much

Well, working after a full day of work I'll be making progress a little each day. I ran the extension cables through the back of the seat (Was'nt too bad) I then ran the cables to the area below the jumbseat. It's a nice big empty area with a cigarette lighter for power. I've mounted a video amplifier that I'll be using for video distribution.

I still need to run an 'accessory on' line to the front, a source video cable to my Avic-D3. I need to get a couple of RCA Gender Benders and finally A Video-out cable to the overhead monitor.
Then i need to figure out how to put a PS2 Slim somewhere...
