Tonneau Covers
Tonneau Covers
I was just about to order an Extang Tonneau for my 02 Supercrew, when I read on Extang's Web Site that over-the-rail bedliners need to be "cut" so that the calmps will fit. Can anyone tell me what this exactly means. Didn't really want to have to damage anything on my truck. Is there any other brand out there that doesn't require any cutting of bedliners ??
Thanks

Do you even have an over the rail bedliner? Probably not as the F-150 comes with the rail protectors standard (at least on most models I have seen and certainly would think every supercrew). The Extang and many other covers are secured with clamps to the inside of the bed rails. If you did have an over the rail hard plastic bedliner, it owuld have to be cut in a few spots for the clamps to contact the steel rails, not the plastic bedliner. But like I said, I doubt you have an over the rail type on your Screw.

Tonno Install
I just installed a Extang Sabre on my 97 F150 4x4 flareside (with bed rail protectors) last weekend. Sure enough, at the middle location, the two clamping pieces would not fit together due to the undulations on the underside of the bed rail. I tried moving the clamps, but that messed up the required widths for the cross members. Eventually, I went to the local Home Depot and got some longer screws that were able to pull the two clamping pieces together.
Not sure what your local temps are, but it was a pain getting the cover on-best to let it sit in the sun and warm up before stretching over the frame.
Good Luck-

Take a look at the Retrax pickup cover before you go buy the Extang. The Retrax is also a hard cover. I like my Retrax much better than the extang. you can see it at www.rolltopcover.com
Retrax is nice, but at 4x the cost, probably not an option.
As mentioned, no cutting of anything when installing that cover. Order it up!
