Using Different Year Grille Surrounds?

Have any of you out there actually put a different year grille surround on your truck? I have a 98 with the chrome grille surround and the "bar" type grille. I took the surround off the other day to see what's involved in installing a billet grille, and saw that the grille and surround are one solid molded piece! There's no way in hell that I'm gonna take the time to cut the grille out and then grind down what's left. Seems like a pain. I would rather just spend the cash and buy a new surround for a 99 and pop out the grille it comes with. Does anyone know if a 99 or later surround will fit on a 98?

I think that 97 & 98 grills are the same ,but 99 is bigger. I think!

yes, the 99 and up dip down in the middle farther than the 97/98's. but it should work. check out fishdeath's truck from ftw. he just put a 00 grille on his 97 f150 and it looks great and just fits
