Projector Headlight Install
I recently purchased a set of Projector Headlights from APC and they came with no diagram for install. Has anyone out there installed these that could tell me where I can get a wiring diagram or give me some pointers on how to wire them properly? Should the projectors be wired so they only come on if parking lights are on or only when the headlights are on, or does it not matter? Is that what the relay is for? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
I installed my projectors it's really simple. First to get the factory lights out- open the hood and right above the lights there are two metal "tabs" that lock the headlights in. To get them out you push back and up on these tabs and they should raise up a few inches. Then the light will pull out pretty easily, if it doesn't you probably don't have the tabs pulled up enough.
Now to adjust the beams you will see on the backof the lights there are long screws with adjustable doodads. Set them at your stock lights lenghts and adjust them as needed. I found with mine they pointed down too much so I had to adjust them up.
Now the wiring- the main headlight just plugs right into the factory wiring harness. The little light you can run a few different ways, one is to splice them into your headlights so the come on with your headlights, I'm not sure which wire it is you'd have to use a voltmeter.
Second you can wire them up independent of the whole system and have them on a switch that you can control from the cab.
third you can splice them into your parking lights so they come on with your parking lights, again you will have to use a voltmeter to find the correct wire, make sure you don't connect it to the turn signal, well I suppose you could if you wanred to. good luck let me know if you anymore info.

Thanks for replying jabber! I did finally get mine installed but I did run into a few problems and just wanted to know if you did too. First, the headlights on the projectors are offset to one side so they did not slide right in. I had to cut away the middle slot where the tabs fit. After that, the projectors still did not fit in because the actual projecetor prevented the tabs from sliding all the way in. So I had to grind the tabs down so they could slide all the way in. A real pain to do. I've got a '97 (mfg. 5/96) and was curious if perhaps the headlight mount changed in the newer F-150s b/c I'd never heard of anyone else having this problem. I may not have bought them had I know it was going to be such a pain. Did you have these problems as well? Thanks again for the info though.
oh yaaa
I do remember now hearing about some guys having problems installing these on 97 models, I believe they had to do alot of dremel work to get them to fit. My truck is 99 so I didn't have any problems with the fit -- do a search of " projector" and see if you can find any old post about this it may help you out. Good luck!!
