Calling '98 and Lightningcrew.........
I'm working on changing all of my instrumentation and switch lights to blue.
'98,
How is the paint on your AC ***** holding up? I found some Rustoleum (sp?) spray paint that matches my radio surround and thought I may give it a try. Any tips for prepping the ***** before painting? Kinda unrelated to the topic but, what kind of glue did you use to hold the carpet on your tonneau lid? (yours looks great by the way!)
Lightningcrew,
How are your AC ***** working out? Any tips for changing the color of the lights? Did the stained-glass paint work well?
I'm going to attempt to change all of the lights to blue (even the window switches) eventually.
I've got a new white face guage cover(haven't installed it yet) and noticed that the "PRND21" indicator will still be green. Any ideas on how to fix that?
Thanks guys!

Hey man - working on switch three right now. Finish is great!! Bought Duplicolor Arctic Silver and using a gloss clear. Wiped switch down with Goof Off to remove any Armor All. Two coats of primer, two to three coats of silver, three coats of clear. No sanding needed between coats. To remove the "green" lens, after you pull the switch off, just take a pair of pliers and pull the plastic out of the back of the switch. The only part that is green is the tip that shows through the switch, which is also covered with white (what you see from the front). A little Goof Off took it all off. Stained glass paint worked well - painted the front to about half way down the plastic. Looks real thick when you first apply it, but once it dries you can see right through it. On the second switch I tried to paint just the back of the plastic for a different look, but it did not turn out well - light coming through was real dark. Have to redo it.
As far as the lighting for the panel, I want to open up the panel and see if there is any of that green paint on the plastic - if so, you might be able to use Goof Off to remove the paint to get white lettering (or paint with the blue). Also, some people have put hyperwhite bulbs in there to brighten the lettering. From what I have been told, there are two 194 bulbs in the A/C panel.
I'll post pics real soon.
Also finished my sub box for the 8" to go in the center console. Ripped out the rear panel yesterday and started running amp wires. My truck is a mess right now, but hopefully it will all be worth the work.

Excellent! Sounds like you've been busy. We'll have to hook up in a couple of weeks to check out the progress. I'm going to be working on mine this weekend.
Thanks for the info!

Hey Robdude,
The paint is holding up great!! No sign of wearing at all yet. The clear probably makes all the difference with durability. I actually roughed mine up with an SOS pad, it was all I had at the time. You just have to break the "shine" on them and the paint will stick well.
For the lid I used the 3M heavy duty adhesive. It comes in a green can and is available at Home Depot. At least it was in Socal? About $13 a can, but well worth it IMO. One can wasn't quite enough, but the guy who helped me had a can of the 3M "77" adhesive. It seemed to work well enough, though. Good luck with the projects!,,,,98
