Question about 99 front end conversion

I have a 98 F150 and have noticed the 99 front end conversions. I was wondering if anyone has ever tried to just fit the grill surround without changing the bumper. Has anyone ever measured just how far the 99-up grill drops than the 97-98's? There is a pretty big gap between the grill and bumper now. I was thinking I might be able to shave a small amount off the bottom of a 99 grill surround and somehow get it to fit without changing the bumper too.

Without measuring..........I KNOW IT WON'T WORK............... My truck is parked right next to a 99 everyday......and with all do respect...............thats why they call it a "CONVERSION"!

At the center it's 12 1/16" from top to bottom with a 9 7/16" grill opening.

Ah, but it will work. This pic is not my truck, but I want to do the same thing except I will lower the bumper a little more & install the upper bumper pad from a 99+ & paint it white to match my fenders thereby filling the gap on the sides & putting my air dam a little lower to the ground.
It will work !
