I like that look.

Did the XLT letters come off completely, too?

You have inspired me to do this mod, too.

dissolved

Yeah the XLT letters just dissolved when in contact with the Acetone...I tried to tape them off(I was gonna leave that part black), but the acetone ran under the masking tape on the emblem a little and it didn't look good so I wiped them out. I saw somewhere that you can by the letters for like $6....I forget where though.

I am into modding- big time. I don't like replacing parts necessarily, but altering the stock pieces is truly an enjoyable passtime for me.

Acetoning the emblems has appealed to me ever since I had me '99 Lightning. But instead of just Acetoning them. . .what about cleaning them up with the acetone and then color matching the F-150 script (over the new chrome background)? Someone slick with a paint brush (like me ) could also replace the XL/XLT/Lariat/Eddie Bauer/etc. text (color matched or complimentary colored of course).

What do you think about this?

Tell you what- I do all my mods in PhotoShop first, to see what they'll turn out like. If you don't mind, I'll use your pictures and 'photoshop mod' them and then repost them to this thread.

sweet...photoshop rules...I wish I as artistic as you but I don't trust myself with a paintbrush.

That sounds like it would look good. Can't wait for the pics

I took some of my moms fingernail polish remover (acetone) and tested a small area on my 97' f-150. It just started to dull up the area, I scratched at the small area a bit and it looked like some of the black was comming off but I stopped to ask........ Does it take some scrubbing with the acetone to get that stuff off or should it come off with ease?

when I did it with the acetone, it came off very easy. After rubbing lightly for about 2 seconds it reveals the chrome

Here's a photo of mine.

I cleaned all the paint off (XLT included) and applied reproduction XLT decals back on it when I was done.

I go to the middle east twice a year to play backgammon.
( UAE to be exact)

Habibi as it was explained to me is a term of endearment.
It's one of those words that has 2 different meanings for a man and a woman.

Call a woman Habibi, and it means something like "darling"
Call a man Habibi, and it's like saying "buddy"

They've been calling me Habibi for years when I am there, unless I win, then they call me some other words that I can't spell, but I have a pretty good idea of what they mean (even though I don't speak the language)

BTW, if anyone is looking for a new winter vacation spot, consider Dubai, it's warm, safe, and beautiful.

Here's a photo I took on the beach at the Ritz on Christmas day.
