Acetone = Very Nice

I agree with the acetoned look.... we (the CA Chapter of F-150 World) just had a mod party on Sunday at one of our members houses and I spent most of the day acetoning other members emblems... think I did about 4 or 5 trucks... it was a great time.... and everyone loved the way they came out!!!

Do you pull them off or do it in place?? Also, acetone is nail polish remover right?

you can leave them on or take them off... I recomend leaving them on... just mask off the area around them very good... I recommend 2 layers of masking tape... some acetone... you can buy it at Walmart for a few dollars... some cotton ***** and some Q-tips... and a little bit of patience... and you can see the results above... well worth the trouble!!!

I hear it doesn't work on '98 and '97 models because of different paint used on the badges. Is there any truth to that Cazper?

Chipper -

That is correct. I have a 98 and it didn't work on my badges. I went to ford and bought 3 new ones (from a 2002 model). The paint came right off! The harderst part on this project was removing the 3m tape left on the truck from the old badges.

here is the deal.... if your truck was made even up to the early 99 models you can't do the ones that are on your truck... as I learned on Sun. when I tried to acetone one of the members trucks for him at the mod party.... the older emblems have baked on paint that doesn't come off no matter what you use... the newer emblems paint comes right off the emblems with gentle rubbing with acetone... now, if you need to get new emblems you can get them at your local dealer relatively cheap (I've been told around $20) then you need to take off your old emblems... to do this you heat them with a blow dryer and use fishing line and work the fishing line behind the emblem carefully as to not scratch up the paint.... there are alignment posts on the fender emblems so you have to work around them... once you have them off use a little rubbing alcohol (not acetone) on your painted surface to remove the left over sticky residue (not acetone, because acetone will screw up the paint bad!!!)

now before you put the new emblem on the truck fill a small tray with acetone and let your new emblem soak in it for a few minutes... this is easier than using the cotton ***** and Q-tips while it's on the truck... take it out of the tray, dry it off and apply the emblem to your truck using 3M tape if the emblem didn't come with double sided tape already on it....

Hope this helps....

Cazper is correct. I paid 19.00 a piece from Ford (you can find them cheaper on the internet if you don't mind waiting a few extra days). I hoped my truck was built closer to '99, but no luck. I had to buy all three badges. So I spent around $65.00 total for this mod.

some fishing line should work great in taking the old emblems off.

So under the emblem there are alignment holes? So you just can't take off the emblem and leave them off. Is this what I understand. Bummmer...I'd rather not have the darn emblem on my 97.

Thumbs up Did mine last weekend

Very easy. I've seen some go a step further by painting the letters various colors but I like the chromed look.
