Question Need tonneau help

I'm thinking of installing a hard tonneau on my 1999 SWB Extended cab. I saw one on a truck recently that was made of the same dark gray plastic material that Ford uses on the factory bed rail covers. As a result, the cover was almost invisible from the side and rear view. Unfortunately, I was unable to get close enough to see the manufacturer name due to heavy traffic. Have any of you seen this cover? Anyone know who makes it? Anyone have personal experience (good or bad) with this tonneau?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Are you sure it was a hard cover? Did it cover the bed caps? I believe that ******** makes a hard lid that has a textured surface, but I don't think the look is that similar to the rail caps. Anyone else have any suggestions?

Yes, it was a hard cover, and it did cover the rail caps. In fact, the sides of it looked just like the rail caps. It was a very neat looking package, but I can't find it for sale.

I rented one of the Rangers from Enterprise, and it had a tonneau similar to what you're talking about. It was hinged in the middle, and didn't have very good access to the bed. My thought at the time was that Enterprise didn't want you to use the bed for the normal things you use a truck for. This may or may not be the same cover you're thinking of, though.,,,,98

Let me do some looking, and I can post my results here later.

I found these guys? Dynaglass ind. They make a cover with a a "Dynahyde" feature. They cover their hard cover with a vinyl covering. This might the cover you're looking for, but it does not completely cover the rails. Back to the search, I'll see what else I can find.,,,,98

Post May not be the one you are talking about.....

....but JC Whitney sells a low profile hard tonneau that has a textured surface. Don't know if it covers the bedrails or not.

Still no luck

I still haven't been able to find anything about the tonneau I originally asked about, but I appreciate all your responses.

I think I'm about to decide to just get a Snuglid and forget about the one that matches the bed rails. Is there anyone here from the Dallas area that can recommend a dealer for the Snuglid around here? Also, do the snuglids come painted in factory colors, or do you have to get them painted? If they come painted from the factory, what has been everyone's experience with the quality of the finish?

Is there much variation in the price of the snuglids from one dealer to the other, or are the prices fixed?

Thanks again for your help!

Thumbs up

My Snuglid came in the factory color, and was $750. This was 2 years ago at least, so the may be lower now. Or higher? Who knows? Mine also came with a large chip along the back edge, and no liner underneath Don't let them get away with paint imperfections or chips, some guys I know have had trouble getting them resolved. The finish on mine has held up very well!! It's only been waxed a handful of times since I've had it. The carpet lined covers look SO much nicer when open, also. I'm not sure how much it adds to the price, but the look alone is worth the money. I am planning on doing mine myself next year, haven't decided on a color yet, though. Good luck!!,,,,,98

ohhh...so you can get the Snuglid with carpet from the factory? I wasn't aware of that. Their website really isn't very informative or helpful. I'd like to get a lid that is carpeted inside with a color that would match a bedrug (which I also don't have yet).

Does anyone know where in Dallas I can find a dealer for Snuglids?

I saw a truck with a Bedrug(brand name) just a day or two ago, and it matched the Snuglid liner close enough to look like an exact match to me. I believed the snuglid liner was factory because of how well it was done, plus the snuglid S/N plate was on top of the carpet. It was a NICE looking combo for sure. Even the lift cylinder mounting brackets were covered under the lid. clean clean clean!! They probably use the same supplier for the carpet, from the way they look together. My guess is they use marine carpet, to keep the moisture from damaging the matierial. You can register over at f150world, and ask about snuglid dealers in the TX Chapter forum. There are ALOT of us in TX, join the club!!,,,,,98
