2002 Harley Grille Installed!
2002 Harley Grille Installed!
I just picked up my new 2002 Shadow Gray SuperCrew Lariat last week. I decided to mod the front end with the new Harley grille. The new 2002 Harley SuperCrews have a sweet chrome slotted grille which differs from the 01 grille. The grilles only come in shadow gray or black, but I bet you could pop out and switch the inserts to work with other color trucks. The dealer does not offer just the insert so you have to buy the entire surround. Kar Kraft says they will carry the 02 inserts, but they don't know when. Below are some before and after pictures (sorry about the quality). Let me know what you think and remember...you saw it here first! Randy

Looks awesome man. Can you give me the part number? I have a 2001 HD grill from Karkraft, but quality is not that good. My dealer has sold me everything at cost so I can do the same.
ALSO...how do you upload pics like you did? I have mine from my f150online gallery...is that how you did yours? I got a new dig cam and cant wait to try it out.

Very Nice..!
This is what my Father In-Law wants for his truck, now that he has the 02' Lightning Headlights and Corners on..!
Would you be able to get me the OEM Part number for your grill?
Thanks again,
Andre S

Lucky that you had a friend who works in the Parts Dept. I have been advised that any Harley parts require a Harley VIN (proof of ownership), otherwise you can't purchase the parts. If I am wrong, let me know. By the way, I agree on the quality of Kar Kraft. I purchased a '01 Harley grill from them, it would not fit and it looked like it was a factory reject. Fortunately, they allowed me to return the part and refunded my money. As the old saying goes, you get what you pay for!
The Grille was pretty easy to install. Took me 45 min max. I could detail the process if anyone wants to know.
I had no problem at the dealer. My buddy is the parts manager at a Lincoln Mercury dealer and never mentioned anything about actually having to own an HD.
I'll have to post some more pics as the ones here don't do the grille justice.
Thanks everyone for the compliments. Randy

If it's really that easy to install, I'll take you up on that list of instructions. That's the best looking grill I have ever seen on an F-150... not too flashy, not too plain, nice and shiney, and still shows the blue oval! Very tough!
First I should note that my truck is shadow grey and the HD grille surround from the factory came pre-painted. This swap is only if you have a shadow grey or black (as this can be ordered also) truck. If your truck is another color, this info will help you remove and replace the surround, but you're on your own when it comes to popping out and switching inserts.
Below are some basic instructions on removing your grille surround. What made it easiest for me was to look at the new part and study the mounting points PRIOR to attempting the disassembly of the factory installed surround. If you can't look at the new part and figure out how to R&R this grille surround, you have no business working on your own vehicle. Hope this helps.
1) Open hood and remove upper radiator shroud. This consists of removing 8 to 10 plastic phillips head "pop" clips.
2) With the shroud removed, remove side marker lights (headlights do not have to come out). The side markers are held in by one bolt (8mm maybe). Look down at the top of the marker from inside the hood and you'll see the one silver bolt. The marker lights slide straight out the front with this bolt removed (they actually have little rail guides so be careful not to force anything.
3) Remove approx 6 (8mm maybe) bolts on top of grille assembly. Also remove 1 bolt from behind each marker light (now exposed since you took out the markers.
4) Squeeze and pop out two lower grille assembly retaining clips. You have to reach in behind the grille. The clips are about 6" away from each side of the blue Ford oval. I was able to do this using only my fingers.
5) Remove black plastic things attached to the grille assembly under each headlight. There are 4 or 5 push in plastic retainers that need to come out. You'll see what I'm talking about when you look between the headlight and bumper. I know they make a special tool for this, but again I was able to use just my fingers.
6) Assemble in reverse order. Remember to leave everything loose at first until you know you have everything right. Then firm up by tightening.
If anyone actually does this, be sure to post pics.

CBechtel... I was surprised that you heard that you needed a Harley vin # to purchase parts. I just ordered and received a chrome lumbar turn wheel with no problems... was going to do the door handles too...but the price difference over stock was ridiculous and you have to buy the entire handle assembly...lumbar wheel was $22 but the chrome door handles were $240 comparted to stock $57. Like a Corvette, I guess you pay more for the parts because of the name.

I installed the 2001 Harley grill on my SCrew. It came with the black surround which I didn't need since my truck is silver. Sold the surround on this website for $100. The Harely Grill really added some character to the otherwise plain looking stock nose but then, last weekend, I added my Lightning heads and corners and WOW!!! Best thing I like about the grill is the fit is perfect and really looks good with the metalic silver surround. Can send pictures if anyone's interested.
