Sportsmasters

My Sportsmasters tonneau is kind of irritating. I got the lift one. Other than the fact that it doesn't fit welll over the rear corners, it moves on me.

As I drive the lift shocks actually push it towards the rear of the truck. As this happens the latch goes out of adjustment, and gooey rubber seals are pulled from the front cross bar.

The real problem lies in the rail clamps. They aren't really the right shape to clamp to the bed rails properly. They bend and distort if you "overtighen" then. I'm worried they will snap if I tighten them more. I would use regular pickup truck cap clamps, but the top streches over them and they are too thick and high. I suspect they will damage the vinyl.

So any ideas? I want easy removal, I like the hinged idea, and I really need a covered bed. Anyone solve this with some other type of clamp? Other Tonneau better?

Before I bought my 2002 SCREW, I had a 2000 Supercab with an A.R.E Tonneau and it fit perfectly. As a matter of fact they build the cover for the
F-150 to match the front hood and it also covers the plastic bed rails to give a nice seal. Hope this helps.

I have a Sportmaster but just the regular one and I love mine it fits great and works great. but then again mine is not the lift one. I did think about buying that one but it was a little to pricey to me for what I use it for. and figured that one of these days I will buy a hard lid. Sorry i'm of more help.

Do you have a snapped Sport Masters? Do you prefer that over the snappless ones?

Thanks,

I'm not sure who you are asking. I have snaps on my tilt one. I've never had a non-snap one so I can't compare. The snaps seem fine. I just wish the thing would stay put.

I also have the Sportmasters tonneau cover, but mine also is the fixed one. Been on my truck for 40K mi and I check the clamps every 3 months for tightness. It stays put though, it must have something to do with your lift shock's. Can you return to the place you bought it and question them about it, exchange for a new one or a fixed one?

Thanks for the replies! I'm going with the regular Slant Side Sport Masters tonneau. After giving more thought to the way that I use the bed most of the time , I think that will work out good.

JA,

With the Lund Interceptor, do you have to use those rubber spacers on the hood of the newer F150s?

Thanks,

No, there are no rubber bumpers on the Lund Interceptor shield. I have had it on there since the day I brought it home, and no problems.

Thanks Jeff,

I forgot to also ask, did you have to drill any holes to install it?

Yes, I had to drill mount holes. It did not pick up existing holes.

I would exhange it for a new one, but it appers to be a design issue, no a defect issue. I would try another filp up Tonneau, but I have no evidence that the new one won't have the same issue.

The good news is I now know that some model of bug guard doesn't use rubber bumpers. Thanks .
