Hinged or Non-Hinged Tonneau?
Hinged or Non-Hinged Tonneau?
Hello,
I'm considering a tonneau cover for my F150 and would like to get some opinions on a hinged vs. a non-hinged.
Also, what do you guys think of the Sport Masters tonneau covers?
Thanks,
MP

I'll just paste my post:
My Sportsmasters tonneau is kind of irritating. I got the lift one. Other than the fact that it doesn't fit welll over the rear corners, it moves on me.
As I drive the lift shocks actually push it towards the rear of the truck. As this happens the latch goes out of adjustment, and gooey rubber seals are pulled from the front cross bar.
The real problem lies in the rail clamps. They aren't really the right shape to clamp to the bed rails properly. They bend and distort if you "overtighen" then. I'm worried they will snap if I tighten them more. I would use regular pickup truck cap clamps, but the top streches over them and they are too thick and high. I suspect they will damage the vinyl.
The only reply I got so far was something like "same problem, sold mine on ebay, got a cap ..."
Hope that helps.

I have a Leer fiberglas tonneau and love it. Its not for everyone as they are a pain if you need to haul anything tall. The other option is a semi-rigid lid like an Aerocover or Truxedo that have a couple of hinged points.
